Sorry to start yet another surfing thread but...

This is the next level in man made waves.
A truly elite level wave.
What a stoker!

I makes me sad that this is 30 minutes from my house and I will probably never get to ride it :(

Not really on topic per se, but spent the last two days at Pipe Masters and had a chance to see 'the man himself' up close and personal. Got some cool pics and thought I'd share them here. What a legend!

So what will it cost aspiring wave biters to play on his pool?

What's up with Slaters knees? They're all wrinkly and stuff. Is that a surfing thing? I'm a 5.4 surfer.

I wonder if this is a San Joaquin Valley thing, Daniel. My first reaction was, "Oh great. Another beach where I'm not a 'local.'"

Incredible!! I wonder how much that pool cost to build much less operate? the wave is perfect but he should work on the water clarity and temp. Regardless what an amazing wave.

Thanks jefe'

River Mouth was the first thing I thought of when I saw the water color as well. Never saw it peel like that though 😉

Wow, looks amazing. Better than waveloch's next gen wave pool (guys behind the flowrider).

Looks like an existing pool, or afterbay. Comments disabled on the videos, bummer because you know people would give some spoilers.

A contractor friend worked on this and had to agree to not share info about construction or location but luckily people suck at keeping secrets :)

It's in the San Joaquin Valley but when you drive by you wouldn't notice.

Hopefully this testing location will work out and they eventually build them for public use because it looks awesome!

The funny part is that it's virtually impossible to permit a pond or lake around here unless you apply as an aquaculture project. Dollars to donuts says Kelly is feeding some talapia or catfish in that mud hole!

Great looking wave. I'd love to see one insane Diego with the wave propagating to the West for those onshore days.

Build these things next door to climbing gyms.

So, is it a pool with a channel, and a huge underwater plow of sorts is pushing the water, with turbines and stuff on the plow/sled?

I'm really curious as to how they made this technically possible.

Just think of the KW/h's that rig needs!

Don't know if Slater's works the same way but here's an explanation: http://science.howstuffworks.com/engineering/structural/wave-pool5.htm

An acquaintance builds the mechanisms for the wave pools at several Caribbean resorts.

When he was commissioning the first one, a higher up management type wanted the waves bigger.

I want it to blow the bikini tops off all the women. Turn it all the way up!

So he did.

Washed the poolside bar and all the deck furniture into the pool.

The suit stalked off silently to his office.

He gets a written off vacation every year to tune the systems up now though.
