My favorite ski resort in California for 20 years. Last two years were pretty dry, though.

We got the first snow this week.

November 2nd 2015.

Early skiing season? Hope so.

There is some decent climbing around Kirkwood too, according to DMT and Gumby.

Got pictures?

Worked there late 70's . In Sept. we were doing some remodel on
the lodge , snowed 4-5 feet over a day and a half opened the cornice
chair and 25 of us employees got face shots and thigh deep all day !

Being in the ski biz , I ski with people from all over the country/
world and everyone that has been there holds it high on their list
of best areas. Glad to have called it home for a bit.

Not to mention proximity to calaveras dome.

Kirkwood is one of the top 5 hills I have ever been to, love the terrain!

I have a big Kirkwood sticker on the tip of my snowboard to remind myself of that amazing time!

Kirkwood is still the only resort I've ever owned a pass at. Great mountain. Great slackcountry. Great shorter drive from the Bay too. Could be taller though.

My only regret is that I didn't huck Jim's when I was like 18 cause it sure ain't gonna happen now.

I LOVE KW!

Although, I'm rather weary to see how/if things will change there since being acquired by Vail Resorts... :/

Skied there on a big powder day, and had the most epic ski day ever. Kirkwood rules! Lots of steep and deep.

That happened in 2012. Since then they have added a new patrol shack at the top of 10. The valley is now on the grid (HUGE improvement) although I don't know how much Vail had to do with that.

Kirkwood is great. One of my favorites for the terrain quality and snow quantity.

I've heard they used to let the cornice on the wall get way bigger bitd than they do now. This true? Anyone got photos?

Gumby, thanks for the clarification. I didn't realize it had been that long ago, relatively.

When I skied there during the 10/11 season, a college season pass was around $200. I remember, because a lift ticket for the 4 days we did was about the same as the college pass price. So, we just got the college pass in hopes of making another trip. Now, as I just checked, the college pass is $409! And that's only valid at KW.

^^^

This price doubling happened the first year after Vail bought KW, sadly. Those ~$200 passes were great and it was pretty easy to fake being a student too...I'm sure they were a huge loss.

That price also reflects how late in the year it is. I'm not sure but guessing it would have been $300-$350 when they went on sale. It's hard to beat the Tahoe Local Pass which was around $450 when they went on sale this year.

Gumby, we bought ours in November of 2010, IIRC, since we skied for 4 days over New Years....and it dumped ALL 4 days! ...woot! :D
