I am being irreverent

but the same old same ole from some posters…

Yeah bring out the stats, "lies, damned lies and statistics", I think Popeye, or maybe it was Goofy, who said that.

White Punks On Dope. (No, not some of the posters on the Taco Stand, just some of the society).

And then the Superheroes. "A hundred kills, on an aircrat carrier, and my clients can attest to that," "because I take great photos of wannabe POTUS who says they will see me in cabinet" (what may be true in some of these poster's cases, will we ever know, and, I guess, who really cares "Hey you brought it up Patrick", "Oh yes I did, uh, duh…")

And at least we knew Fattrad was just spoofing, without the delusions that some posters have.

I write this because I am tired, and lonely without my partner Jen, and because I read some of the self-aggrandizing that some posters put up, whether they deserve it or not, and it annoys me. Just for example, one STer should have a movie written about him if his posts are true, the guy is a superhero. By his reckoning at least.

Maybe I am just envious, and tired and certainly fed up with politics and the polarization I seem to see from my birth country. United we stand, divided…

I do not know what happened in Oregon today. Do you?

A sad for certain.

EDIT

And just to add, I have fecked up in so many ways, i should write a book. "Memoirs of an Idiot". It would sell.

Mark Twain.

And 93% of the people who make this argument are blowhards.

Sigh....yes, it's sad.

Hey Lorenzo, interesting you should quote Mark Twain.

It is fact and I can back it up, Samuel Clemens (MT) is in my family tree. (I keep trying to get him down from the tree but the bananas do not work).

Sawyer. Mark Twain's cousins in St Joseph, Missouri, before they went on the Oregon Trail to Washington (eventually) . True and proof can be given. Like 1/16th Choctaw, hey, my ancestors molested the natives like many other (1640 the Sawyers "hit" America, for better or for worse).

Josiah Bartlett (no, not Martin Sheen's character in the West Wing TV series, what an insult, hah hah), second man to sign Declaration of Independence (and a good liberal he was, a physician and statesman, New Hampshire represenative to Continental Congress).

And still, have any of their strong characteristics passed on to me? Sadly, no.

I am weak but I am devoted to Jennie, though her Korsakoff's is progressing and memory fading, Fecking crap. If we can put a man on the moon and spend trilions on wars and conflicts, what about dementia (and cancer). JUST FOR STARTERS.

Locker, I don't get it. What, are you saying that everybody is related to Mark Twain?.

I'll have to look into that, yes, google.

But my family is. I wish I had 1/100th of his literary genius.

Gents,

Benjamin Disraeli is the person who said, that about statistics, and Mark Twain popularized the saying, which is one of my favorite quotes.

Bill and Lorenzo, I know it was Twain via Disraeli.

The last course I had to do at uni to get my BA was a stats course (Cal State Hayward/East Bay). I told the stats prof that I was useless with numbers, math and anything in between.

I cited the "lies, damned lies, and statistics" quote to him and he laughed. I didn't do very well in the course, should have gotten a D, if that, but he gave me a C, and gave me as much help as he could, along with a gorgeous student tutor from Dalian, China, she was beautiful… and engaged already.

Who was it that said that everyone should write an autobiography, but only after attaining the age of 40? I was thinking "memoirs of an Idiot" would be a good title for mine, but then I started thinking. If good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from poor judgment, "The Road To Good Judgment" would be a perfectly truthful title.

I know you've had a heaping double-portion of trouble, Patrick. I hope life turns around for you soon.

HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL
(Alexander Pope)

Patrick,

Indeed this is a complex world we will never fully understand or appreciate as humans. The best we/I can do at times is offer encouragement and hope to our brothers and sisters.

Of course, I am often guilty of reading too deeply between the lines. For what it's worth, I still struggle to comprehend Alexander Pope. In any case, thank you for sending me down memory lane to read again something I enjoyed being taught in my days as a student so long ago.

I read it out loud to a small audience of cats who are hoping this means it is treat time. Okay..that was weird, but true. Time to feed the kitties.

Kind regards,
Bill

Yea me!

it's in our genes. It's what they spend most of their time saying. The sanctimonious part I find is in saying that it hasn't worked its way into MY psychology, the way that it's worked its way into YOUR psychology. But that's also just part of the game our genes play.
