Hi, I'm out in Mongolia (in and around ulaanbaatar) for the next 6 weeks and would love to do some proper hill exploring and possibly a little climbing. Just wondering if anyone has and hints/tips/advise how to best achieve this? the large company offerings take too much time as i am (sort of) working over here. A massive longshot would be if there was anyone over here who would want to get out as well.
Thanks,
dan

Here is a link to a small guide covering routes a small group of us climbed in 2010 while in Mongolia.

I did some climbing there in Sept of 2014. Nate's guide was very helpful when we climbed in Terelj National Park. We just hired a van to take us to the park and then stayed in a random Ger Hotel nearby (we didn't speak any Mongolian and got by with hand gestures and some of the Mongolia folks new a little English).

Some of the bolts have been removed (first two bolts of Mongolia Route Rage) and some of the slabs to the right have been retro bolted). There are also some new anchors with lower hardware. Just use your judgement before starting to climb. Not really dangerous, the bolts might be different locations and have different bolt count than in the guide.

Here is a video from our climb there https://vimeo.com/112662966

The rock reminds be somewhat of Vedauwoo, big grained granite, not as many cracks and it can be really chossy in some places.

I have an email for a european guy who lived in UB and climbed in Terelj. Not sure if he is still there PM and I can send it to you.
