Hi all, my first post here :)

In two weeks, I'll be hiking the Teton Crest Trail with some friends (3 days, 2 nights). It was suggested to us that we could climb South Teton on the second day by accessing the West Ridge route from Avalanche Divide. I'm having some trouble finding info on this route though. Summitpost just says this is a non-technical class 4, II scramble... http://www.summitpost.org/west-ridge/157476

All of us are fit hikers and we've done some scrambling up mountains before, but are not climbers and have no experience with technical climbing. I called the Grand Teton ranger station and the ranger confirmed that it is indeed a non-technical route and that we should be fine (with the usual advice to not try to tackle anything more than we're capable of).

Just wondering if anyone can chime in on the difficulty here or just some additional info on the route. All of us are cautious by nature, so we'd like to know what we're getting into beforehand, and will plan some other side trip if this is too difficult. Thanks!

It's the easiest, by far, of the Tetons. Just follow your nose up a broad slope and have fun!

You might consider stopping by the Grand Teton Climbers Ranch the evening before your hike. There will be people at the cooking pavilion with a wealth of experience who will only be to glad to help.

The ranch is on the road from Moose to Jenny Lake. Keep an eye out for the sign on the right a couple of miles before you get to Jenny Lake.

+1, DMT.

The poor OP is probably reading the responses to this and saying, 'WTF? This place has got some real weirdos hanging out here.'

Sorry, Deemizzletizzle, don't see any multi-avatar trolls posting yet.

Just thought the name was funny and it is her type of thread. I really could not give less of a f*#k.

(Someone give me internet lessons. What is a troll trolling for if they ask benign questions that would actually be useful to a real human searching for similar information? "Oh I've proven you are polite and helpful, ha ha ha, GOT YA THERE"...?)

(Sorry OP, I have nothing to add about the Tetons.)

Having climbed and guided many years in the Tetons I think this thread is a reasonable request for information about a peak often climbed because of its relative ease.

If, as I suspect, the author is just trying to get some information from the collective font of knowledge supposedly resident here....he/she must be shaking their head in bewilderment.

Did it a number of years ago from the same trail. Most of it is a pretty low angle hike/scramble. Near the upper part of the peak, it gets a tad exposed. We were a party of four and one of the fellers doesn't like loose exposed terrain and he got a bit wigged out and bailed. You could turn around anywhere and go back down if need be.

Note that a couple of folks died on fourth class terrain a week or so ago on Teewinot. So...please take care.

Sad deal.
