I hope no homes are affected by this fire. I was climbing at Chilkook Lake area today and notice smoke to the west. The smoke initially looked like clouds, but since there were no other clouds within view, I assumed it was smoke. When the smoke got darker, I decided to get out of there. When I drove down to Bass Lake, I found that the fire was much closer to Bass Lake probably along the Central Camp Road. It was interesting watching the fire helicopters getting water from Bass Lake to drop of the fire. I hope the fire does not get to Central Camp or Shuteye Ridge.

Somebody should tally up the sources of these fires, once they are finally determined. My $$ is on some kind of human cause, at least 80% of the time.

It's unfortunate that us eastsiders always have to breathe the smoke from these west side fires...I wonder if the wind blew from east to west if it would keep the numb skulls that start these fires out of the west side forests...?

I doubt it, RJ, because we westerners get to breathe plenty of smokey air, too. I was climbing on Fresno Dome yesterday (my fourth trip in 45 years, but my second in three weeks), and got out before the wind shifted and sent the smoke that way. I do suspect, though, that human activity caused this fire.

What Chappy said.

Lordy, Lordy! Keep the fingers of fate crossed. Amen.

Two fires last year (?) in the area of Shuteye, etc., Oakhurst dodged a bullet that started in the middle of town and one other that burned up and away from it.

This was in our local paper today, though little info is given as to the Willow fire's origin.

Good luck, Maderans!

That whole hill is plagued by dumb people. Have no idea where the dumb people come from, but they are always there, trying hard to torch the whole place down.

Middle of summer and as#@&%es are having huge campfires.

So dumb.

I do suspect, though, that human activity caused this fire.

According to CalFire, ninety-five percent of all wildfires are caused by human activity.

Looking roughly at the Willow fire's location.

Looking in the direction of Madera city or west of there.

I felt good with it until yesterday evening when it jumped the retardant line and really started cooking. Lots of dead trees between it and us. Should be OK though, but we will see. The next couple days are gunna be telling.
These four pics were taken by my friend Eric Palmer from his house.

Good luck, brother Justin and sister Mindy!

You were right on about the huge danger of so many beetle trees out that way.

Thanks Mouse. Yeah if it got close to our neighborhood we'd be done. Must be a hundred dead pines in six parcels around us. We lost them all three weeks ago. Here's to El Nino!
