"Hans will present his exciting slideshow hosted by California 89, located at 10156 Donner Pass Road in Truckee on July 31st, 8:30 p.m. till after dark. The presentation is at an outdoor amphitheater. Bring a picnic and enjoy complimentary beer.

California 89, was voted Truckee's "New Business of the Year” in 2013 and is Tahoe's hot spot for apparel, lifestyle gear, and programs that give back to High Fives and Tahoe Fund.

Funds raised will help purchase the 10-acre property known as Black Wall, which features some of the most dramatic climbing terrain in the Truckee-Tahoe region, with stunning vistas and world-class climbing on finely textured granite. The acquisition will protect Black Wall, Peanut Gallery, and Road Cut climbing areas, as well as the access trail to the popular Space Wall, Shark Wall, and Grouse Slabs, all easily accessible from Old Highway 40.

Florine has been featured in San Francisco Chronicle, Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, Men’s Journal, Fitness Runner, Rock and Ice Magazine, Climbing Magazine, Alpinist, Diablo Magazine, Master Athlete, and more.

Should be a fun time.

I had no idea that was private land. I started climbing at Black Wall. So many memories. Black September, Firecracker, One Hand Clapping, so many solid lines. That is a screaming deal. 250k for 10 acres with spectacular views of the lake. Perfect rock. Classic multi pitch lines. They are giving that land away. If we can't get this money together it will end up going for millions. I've lived in NYC for that last 10 years so my concept of real estate value might be a bit skewed. But that place is epic, the history, the rock and views. Unparalleled. The owners of that land are making a generous offer to keep it as it is.

Few people knew it was private, intentionally, as it provided some protection for the owners who wanted it to remain open to the public for climbing but didn't want to get sued if someone got hurt. Doing this deal with the Land Trust gives us a bit of $ to build a (very!) modest house down below (across Old 40), ensures public access in perpetuity (which we'd verbally promised anyway), allows trail and parking improvement (which we couldn't do without incurring liability), and passes responsibility for upkeep to local climbers. We'll still be neighbors but I'll worry less and you can feel like you own it. Which you will!
Rock!...oopsie.

"Badass blond climbing god pose."

Hans-y doesn't quite look like that any more. And Steve Schneider used to have long blonde hair, once. Then there's me .... yeesh.

Hans told me [when he passed me last time] that he was making his 99th ascent of the Nose - I wonder if he has done his hundredth yet?

How was the show?
