Hey! Yu Canadians “Happy ‘Canada Day”.

I believe it is the 50th for the Maple Leaf.

Yes, the only civilized country left in the free world. Free from what? Cameras for one, phones being tapped, for what? The only country that has real blues and greens not like here in the states that are washed out.

Mellow country, yes. I can name a few others but you guys have it best.
A country that does not work you to death. Turn 70 here and get a few more dollars so when you get sick so they take it away.

Everyone in the rainbow up there. No cultural shock yet as I see. Maybe an incident here or there but not something big. I remember when Ottawa had their first drive-by shooting. They talked about for a few days then they had another the next week. What did they do, they made a law that day.
What happened here in the USA it took a year or more for making one or two.

500% octane beer, I had a High Test here in the US [San Francisco] but not the same, tasted like water, I told the server the reason who did not have a clue why. I also remember late at night at the pubs there when they said “Last Call”, you could ask for 6 or 12 and could take home but every one of them had to be opened. I can recall the time when they changed from bottle to cans. Something to do with fighting at time at night when everyone was drunk trying to get into free cabs or buses.

Yes, Happy Canada Day.

I remember a time when Keybec had to count British Columbia’s notes. Something to do with not trusting west Canada. West and East Canadian politics. Long gone now or ?

Where is the Royal Canadian Air Farce when you need them? Miss them too. Intelligent to a “T”. Gone like a few other radio shows.

Happy Canadian Day.

Then there are the women of Canada. Sweet, beautiful and have a mind of their own. Can talk down an American in politics any day. Guess it is in their blood. All Canadians for that matter. Where did all the colour go? White legs that turned into pinks, blues, velvet, yellow, neon. Those were the days.

Yes by far, Happy Canadian Day.

I also remember when Kuben cigars sold for $5 Dollars US then went to $25 Dollars US, Now ?. As for buying booze, yes, had to not drive for a month so I could buy a bottle. As for gas, the same. It was something about “sin taxes”? Was I sinning, I sure don’t remember since I was having too good of a time?

I remember all the food. It was not till the last 20 years but now you have your own. Tack-ohs? Ok, it is Taco but it did not bother me since it was well almost the same. Out and about? Eh?

I have a picture of the Queen when she visited Victoria many years ago. No automatic guns, in fact if I recall I did not see any guns, a few Royal Canadian Police, not many and they did not have dark glasses on. Victoria Police were there as well. A few Canadians would go up light a joint and offer them one. They did not take it. Mellow, what could you say. What a country? All I want to know is the Queen’s picture still hanging when you need to take a leak in men’s room in the Pub’s?

Sure there are problems for sure [drugs, a few guns] in Vancouver, other big cities there, just need to be street wise, never felt threatened, well ok maybe a few times but you could always talk and they would listen. Not here in the US where you shoot then talk.

But that still did not bother me because you guys had something we do not have in the US. Felling safe.

Yes, Happy Canadian Day, Canada.

There is more I can think about why Canada is great but for now……………

A toast to you Canada and not the bloody Queen. I can still feel she is watching me yes/no? Her picture is everywhere.

For sure miss it.

A place where you did not have to worry about being late on a few checks due. That’s Canada.

Canada knows everything about Hockey, there the stadium shakes when a puck goes in and everyone claps on a good save or goal when the opposing team shoots. Here they just want to see fights. Still cannot understand why when the Stanly Cup is on the last page of the papers or last when they broadcast sports news? “Oh! By the way Chicago won” three days later.

Canada has it is on the front pages and first on the news even before they post the US with its bombings, killings, burning of churches, as well as telephone, food, airlines and everything else lies and deceptions.

The only thing Canada has is that they smoke and eat at the same time. Now that is something to see.

How thoughtful of you to express such kind sentiments.

Looks like you guys get a long weekend for your 4th, so we expect Squamish (and elsewhere) to be awash with you guys (and gals) from down South.

Be sure to mention this thread on Supertopo and mention that a free beer would be a fair reward for your generous comments. It might even work, as any excuse to guzzle beer with friendly people is appreciated by all Canadians.

Such a placid, pleasing BIG place...

but the Canadians have their bugaboos, too.

I Sing the Puck Fantastic & Maple Leaf Leaf Raga pt. II, both are among my favorite songs.

The Fantastic Lightfoot of Being, one of my favorite novels.

And Old Fernie, Export A's, penguins...what's not to love?

OK, the penguins and the ciggies, eh?

And not to forget my favorite top Canadian drawer, Tami Knight.

Too sentimental for ya?

Are there many stoopid Canadians? I'm wonderin'.

this just in

The Canadians do not speak the Queen's English. They have their own, thank you.

"So, let's go get us a two-four."
"Where to?"
"Go two blocks down then hang a Larry, go three blocks and hang a Roger and it's right there. We're walking and it's cold out, so put on yur toque."

Well, I prefer to think of July 1 as my birthday, first, and Canada Day second, but whatever.

And Canada is my favorite country that I'm forbidden to enter.

Presents would be nice.

Nothing too extravagant, though.

Thanks, Locker, but let's not hijack the thread talking about me.

Canada can probably sustain its own discussion. Maybe.
