So why has the story of Tommy, Beth and Jason not been turned into an epic summertime block buster movie?

Its got everything American movie-goers crave: small town hero, international travel, love, bloodshed, terrorists! And a triumphant ending to boot...

John Long and other Hollywood insiders - you know more about this?

Because a book has been written, I'm guessing the film rights to the "official" account have already been optioned. I imagine an un-official version could still be made, but without the cooperation of the actual participants.

It would make a great film. The true story fits all the formula.

It can be done in away that doesn't generalize Islamaphobia. The poor sods are just trying to make their way in the world.

To get the green light you need:

A synopsis
A treatment
A bunch of money
Someone to drive it on through.

and away you go.

It will happen.

It would be rad to see Lowell and Mortimer team up with some big Hollywood to make this.

Singer gave a presentation to our local climbing club last month. Much detail in his account and I believed every word of it. Don't see why any of these four would lie or embellish any aspect of their story.

I'm sure they would all have slightly different accounts based on their experiences, but to lie about events to make the story more cool or marketable is a stupid accusation.

Someone asked Singer about a possible movie - I won't say what he said about it though. ;)

Interesting article BJ. I didn't know the details about the Bouchards.

That team always seemed to be a mismatch to me.

Lot of opinions as to what others "think" happened.

Tommy and Singer kicking guys off mountain cliffs to save the vulnerable Beth...

Man, what a story.

Mucci, yer uncle's story would make a FAR BETTER film, and it wouldn't
need an ounce of embellishment, or sex.

So why has the story of Tommy, Beth and Jason not been turned into an epic summertime block buster movie?

There was a fourth member of that party--don't forget Dickey...

I'm pretty sure it was just Tommy who rolled their guard.

I think this article provides a clue as to why the Bouchard book never materialized.

http://www.outsideonline.com/1821591/back-edge

Their most sensational claims appear to have been dis-proven, after having spent over $30k in their quest to disparage Caldwell et.al.

Ironically, the dude that Tommy pushed off the cliff survived, was subsequently captured, tried in a Kyrgz court, and sentenced to death.

It is in the works. It will be like how the weed plane crash became cliffhanger. Tommy is a down and out accountant after failing on the dawn wall. He gets on the wrong plane and ends up in eastbuttfukistan. His ex wife has been captured by islameo terrorists. He get the needed gear; pipe bombs, grappling hooks, and of course the bolt gun. In the climax he uses the bolt gun to anchor thru the foot of their captor and quickly rap off as the top of the mountain blows up with the bad guy trying to wrestle his foot free.

And he looks back and says "keep your feet on the ground when your head is in the clouds."

The story loses a lot of dramatic appeal if the guard does not die.

There are many possibilities as to what actually happened to Ravshan Sharipov:
pushed off a short cliff or slab and survived. Maybe injured so he could not pursue them.
 fell asleep and they escaped
made a deal with them to let them go, if they tell the story they pushed him off a cliff, so that he does not get his commander too angry. Not sure what he would get out of the deal, except if he sympathized with them.

Nothing can be proven with testimony from the participants or from Greg Child, since their incentive is to keep to the original story line and movie rights sold.

John Bouchard is an honest guy, I trust him.
He's just unable to prove exactly what happened.
