Now they're building crazy pad-supporting structures. Maximum impact climbing?

Reminds me of this net. Smart solution, not so much impact in this case.

First comment in mcreel's link:

I wonder if someday, climbers will have the technology to climb high above the ground safely. In the future, maybe we won't have to raise the ground up, but instead, there might be a system of ropes and attachment points so that if the climber falls, they won't plummet to their death. It's a crazy idea but just might work.

Eventually someone will invent invisible rope like Wonder Woman uses. Then impossible things will be climbed as if third class . . . oh wait, Alex uses this stuff already (viz, Half Dome)

Eventually [?] the ropes will be 'topped' to nuclear powered quadcopters with over 100 times the strength of Superman and Dean Potter combined.

I just hope they are solar powered nukes.

I don't like it. It threatens to domesticate the primal sense of adventure we get from escaping from a lion, I mean from red pointing a 5.9c. :-)

My comment was deleted on b3bouldering, but I will re-post it here:

"Second, this boulder is impossible without that kind of platform."

That is patently untrue. You could top-rope it, but that probably is a "non-option" to boulderers. Do you think this isn't perceived as a precedent to some people? They see this and think it is OK. Fine that you did it, bad idea to post the picture.
