It's that time of year in Joshua Tree National Park, and a pair of prairie falcons have once again chosen The Outback to nest. To give this burgeoning family some space the following formations are temporarily closed to climbing and bouldering:

Patagonia Pile
The Heap
Labor Dome
Wall of Biblical Fallacies
Iron Door Cave
Voices
Tidal Wave
Tilt-O-Meter
Lizzy
Dino's Egg
Chuckawalla Boulders

Please also avoid playing loud music and screaming in these areas.

Due to the proximity to Hidden Valley Campground, this will be a very challenging area to enforce a closure. Please be respectful and tell your friends. Last year's birds in The Outback successfully fledged their young. Thanks to everyone who gave those birds the space they needed.

Closure dates: April 24, 2015- June 30, 2015

Thank you very much.

I wish I lived in a world where this did not need to be said.

I wish that climbing areas were a place where that did not need to be said.

I used to carry a ghetto blaster around while climbing. Pantera etc. One day rockfall smashed it to smithereens. I took the hint...

I like to climb at crags where you can blast Pantera all day long and not have to see any other climbers.

Maybe the reason you don't see anybody (or any other lifeform) at the crags is because of the Pantera?

Hey do you remember that day in the ORG when that German couple showed up? I still have a good laugh over that one. I've never seen Pantera put to better use.

this much is known: falcons raised in the presence of harp music go on to make bad choices

Kris, I think it was Metalica.

This is the first time I've ever heard of bouldering being closed because of nesting falcons. But there area is still open to the public apparently. But you can't go inside iron door cave because of falcons.

Maybe the reason you don't see anybody (or any other lifeform) at the crags is because of the Pantera?
Hmmm....maybe :)

Yer right, Metallica.

"You vill turn ze muzik off now!"
"What? Turn the music up? Sure!"

E moderates, we will lower the music while the guy climbs.

We oblige, turning it down to a whisper as he starts up the rock, but as soon as he dangles from a bolt...

The Gorge was dead empty but they had to do the route next to us, they walked up and tossed some of their packs on our tarp etc. We were a-holes but it was funnier than sh+t.

Shortly we were done with our route and left them in peace...
