Hey gang,

Looking for a wall hammer, BD preferred. Doesn't have to be new but needs to have some life left in it. Needs to be shipped to Vegas. Thanks in advance!

Buy a DAMMER. They look like the way to go for hammers right now.

Alternately, here's the best price on a BD hammer:

Big Mike - seriously, I sent the Bird's protoype hammer on the road a few years ago. If anyone has it, send it to vegasclimber.

edit: Big Mike, there used to be another Mike here. I think he still checks in once in a while.

The Bird's hammer is with me right now. Who's supposed to be in charge of it?

Anyone wishing to use the hammer on a climb and report on the ascent can contact me (or johntp) here, or hit my ST email.

Banquo-

You are in charge of it. If Vegasclimber has a use for it I would appreciate you floating it down the road to him. Then he is in charge of it.

edit: Possession being what it is.

Hey all, thanks for the replies!

The Dammer does look awesome, but I'm not sure about pricing or which one would work well for me - I have used the Yo and I'm comfortable with it. I will take another look at the thread.

Thanks for the other link, that is a damned good price.

While I would be SUPER stoked and honored to use the Bird Whammer, I spend a lot more time thinking and talking about aid then climbing aid - I think that would be better put to use with someone that is in the aiders on a regular basis.

Vegasclimber-

Come on! The whole point was for that whammer to travel around! Hell, you don't even have to use it for aid. I hear it works well for adjusting mountain bike wheel alignment.

If you don't have it you can't use it.

Cheers

My <C> Yosemite hammer weighs 25.2 oz
The Kong comes in two weights
650g 22.9 oz
850g 29.9 oz
The DAMMERRs are about 23.8 oz
Bridwell's hammer 34.1 oz

The touring Bridwell hammer is massive. It might be perfect for driving a very few pins per day but it is simply too heavy to use drilling. I am an advocate of longer hammers but the Bridwell at 14.5" overall is probably too long. For comparison, a Yosemite hammer is typically about 11 5/8". Only a god like Thor or Bridwell could use the thing.

Banquo, thanks for the weight breakdown - really good info to know.

The Dammers are awesome, but a bit out of the budget right now - the whole reason I was looking for a used one is to save some $. Leaving my job soon so the money won't be rolling in like it used to. Of course, the up side is that I have multiple climbing trips planned all summer :D

At that weight, I can imagine that the Bird Whammer would be tough to use for bolts for sure! The biggest framer I ever managed to swing for any length of time was a 26, I can't imagine trying to drill bolts at that weight. Thor like indeed!

I have only hammered a few pins, most of the time my hammer has been used to extract nuts and offsets during aid because I haven't managed to teach myself how to place them well enough for body weight without making them bomber, hehe.

I'll tell you what, here's a hammer you can have if you pay postage. It's my first attempt to make a climbing hammer. I found an old Swiss machinist's hammer and drilled a hole in it with a carbide drill and stuck it on a fiberglass handle. It's a bit short at 10" and fiberglass handles are heavy so the whole thing weighs 25.4 oz. Priority mail is $11 in a box. If I can get some padded Priority envelopes I think it would be $6. I've ordered padded envelopes from the PO but they never seem to get here.

Hey Banquo,

Thanks so much for the offer, it's really appreciated. I got a line on a hammer last night and it's on the way, I just hadn't had the time to update the thread till now. So I am all set.

If I get some extra scratch together, I will probably be ordering one from you, I really like the #31 style. Keep up the awesome work!
