That's an AWFULLY large pack to be wearing to set out on a solo of the Eiger, no? That's a Denali expedition pack he's wearing.

Mom did a "Hard Day's Summer". Now he's done a "Hard Day's Winter".

Pretty neat.

Edit to add...he's now done the NF of the Eiger twice? First time in vivo...Ha ha...

This link takes you to an interesting piece about Tom Ballard's background and recent exploits. His combination of true 'dirtbag' status and exceptionable ability should be appreciated here.

That's an AWFULLY large pack to be wearing to set out on a solo of the Eiger, no? That's a Denali expedition pack he's wearing.

like a Gregory Denali or a West Buttress-sized "Denali" pack? either way, far too much pack to carry on the Eiger. Wanna see pics.

Wow, very impressive. Love the use of "antique" to describe the climbs in the Planet Mountain article.

Moving and touching considering the connection with his mom, especially since she soloed the same faces (in the summer).
