First female to climb 5.15? This was posted on another side thread but i think it deserves to be front page news.

This has not been posted on here yet?! Can't believe this is the first thread.

Say whatever you want about kids, their weight, body size etc, but this is huge! First female to climb a 5.15! Can't wait to see her progress and kick ass in the future. La Dura Dura next year?! Dawn Wall Free IAD in a few?! Who knows, but this is exciting to witness!

Just look at the old video on the other thread. She's a natural... She has a gift... She's one of the few who knows...

Wow! Another milestone for 2015! From such an unlikely starting place -- Central Park in NYC -- to 5.15 in Spain. Estupenda!

And only 4 days of working it! Dayum.

I'm honestly just as impressed that she hasn't burnt out on climbing after spending literally half her life pushing herself this hard.

Josune Bereziartu climbed Bimbaluna 10+ years ago.

That was 15a at the time.

I have no idea if it's 15a now. Saw some 9a (14d) ratings for Open Your Mind Direct too.

So I guess the "first female 15a" claim needs a little more research?

From the article:

Ashima Shiraishi Climbs Possible 5.15a [my emphasis]
In 2005, Josune Bereziartu, from Spain, made the second ascent of Bimbaluna, which has a slash grade of 5.14d/5.15a.

Just in case 9a wasn't good enough..

She sent Ciudad de Dios 9a/+ today under humid conditions.

I figured this was the future of climbing. Way to go Ashima! If my daughter had the same level of passion, I think she could be doing about the same thing (I've seen how good she can climb, when she puts her mind to it). But she likes horseback riding, reading, and hanging out with her friends. Climbing is so Meh. It's just something her old man does. Oh well.

I guess if we were all wired the same the world would be a pretty boring place. She seemed passionate about climbing at a very early age, and focused on hard movements before she ever even got on a wall.

You can't trump passion, talent and support.

Well done, Lass! Keep pushing your limits in climbing as long as it's fun for you.

It's 9a/+ not 9a+; a "split grade" a bit like the difference between 14d/15a and solid 15a, or between 13b/c and 13c.

Just a point of clarification, not a criticism. I'm super, super psyched for her, and have been talking about her amazing ascents with my daughters (who are also climbers) for the past couple of days. It's really another level to be pulling down this hard this young.

This is the Ashima Shirashi Fan Club!

We all love her dearly because we can see the pure passion of climbing burns bright in her heart! Rock climber that she is, we can see that she does it out of the total love of it. I don't see her getting burned out any time soon. Go Ashima! Go Ashima!

If you have a thirteen year old in your life, or if you saw what a New York City teenager can be ,
That is one amazing person!

Then all sorts of

That every father feels.
I hope and see that she has balance,
In another video I have seen her dad explain a bit. He is great as well.

I remember seeing her on some of her first outings in Central Park. There were V0s and tears under the tutelage of Yuki the Rat Rock Sensei. That was 2007ish. Seems she's come a long way. Wish I could say the same for me... I've dropped a couple grades in the same timeframe.
