I have read about Black Rock. Any other developed areas I should not miss on my trip in two weeks?

Fritz, do you start that climb with scuba gear to get in the elevation change?

No scuba gear. We were able to fly into a airfield that is high on the volcano, and then drive to base camp.

The fire god pele is believed to possess the black sand. Or something like that.

Stories circulate of coral, sand and other "souvenirs" being mailed back to the Hawaii when people return home and the curse of bad luck follows them.

The same year that I removed black sand from the Maui, 6 months later my house burned to the ground barley making it out alive. (I was asleep @ the time). Coincidence or not? The Fire god Pele took everything that night but some cams, a guitar, a kayak and my life. Best thing that ever happened to me.

Just got back from Maui, stayed w friends on the west side then spent some time in Hana. Climbed around on Black Rock a little. It was ok I guess. Super sharp. There seemed to be bouldering potential around Slaughterhouse Beach, but I was more interrested in the surf.
Have a blast
