I need a reading list and some laymans chart to follow along.

The astrophysicist and decade of prominence

The nature of truth or falsehood that was unexplored to maintain said
Top dog in theory Ofthe sublime and ridiculous status.

The undoing and it's repercussions.

The ADVANCEMENTS, unintended consequences and research that is benefiting

Any other reading suggested to bring a n00b up to speed, on the origins of everything.

If anyone is still interested in counting, then why don't they count the witches and devils. Is it because it would be twice as much work?

And what about spirits?

Couldn't all this be estimated with a slide rule?

Big Bang is creation myth.

My favorite source of science conversations, ranging far from his home field as usual, recently explained why he does not believe in the Big Bang. This was just before the new story, but he already thought the BICEP conclusion would turn out to be a false positive -- they found energy from entropy, not the Big Bang.

So if not a Big Bang then what, I asked him? A yo-yo, he said. The universe expands and contracts, over and over.

The Hot Big Bang is not just another creation myth. Multiple aspects of the CMB, Hot Big Bang Nucleosynthesis, the evolution of structure as now mapped out by observations back to within a billion years of the bang. Every time someone comes up with a new test. HBB passes with flying colors.

Now, BICEP2 and direct evidence for inflation (a component of the hot big bang) is another story. Inflation is a versatile (i.e. slippery) aspect of the hot big bang that is appealing because it gives a reason to understand several aspects of the Universe. But, so far there are no observations to directly support that it occurred. You don't want to conflate inflation and the HBB incorrectly.

while the video is long, it is a lecture by one of the BICEP principals and was given prior to the BICEP-2 results (the last bits of the lecture show the instrument being installed in it's Antarctic location).

it takes you through the aspects of cosmology relevant to the OP...
