Wonder what sort of Border Patrol thuggery might be waiting there for the next poor guy who does that without the proper "papers"?

He's Canadian? I thought it looked like he had two left-handed axes.
Probably didn't know he was on the wrong side of the falls, too.

Looks like some sweet 5+ but it did look reasonably solid with rock behind the ice not water.

This one reached mainstream news in Sweden. Maybe something did change concerning media's interest in climbing after the dawn wall ffa?

Yup.

That would be a Hoser climbing on the You-Ess side [Goat Island] next to Horseshoe Falls.

The gorge has long been closed to ice climbing, and it says it took him about a year to get permission to climb there.

Nice to see a proper lead of the falls, and not some toprope. Of course, they had to put in the dangling legs shot, eh?

Great send, Hoser!

Incidentally, Niagara Falls is formed where the water flows over a caprock of hard dolomite. There is a weaker shaly layer underneath, and the water erodes that preferentially. What this means is that the lip of the waterfall is constantly collapsing - especially Horseshoe Falls - and that the falls are receding [moving upstream] at a few feet per year. Certainly the lip of Horseshoe Falls is noticeably farther upstream than when I was a kid.

I just deleted my thread: "Niagra Falls: First Ascent"

Before posting it, I searched for 'Niagra' on SuperTopo. Good grief.
