There is an area in AZ that is sacred to many groups including native Apaches and climbers, sneaky politicians have attached this land exchange legislation into the national defense bill and after ten years of holding it up it looks like we are going to lose this land to a Chinese and Australian mining company. Please sign and share.

Drangoons? well it does not matter where or what the zone is called. Fix the Link. and yes we can...
Way back when we were murauders blasting across the desert scrub to find rocks to sleep at,
We would find Artifacts and we're always careful around them.

Those Sites are still awaiting a proper Finding.

PLEASE sign this, there are only 800 signatures to go - this area is east of Phoenix just past Superior, AZ called Oak Flat.

Some info: This mining company has inflated their figures on number of jobs that will be provided, and once we give away this resource, profits go to foreign companies, the mining practices will leave a huge sinkhole wasteland that will potentially pollute the nearby water, the land was set aside by Eisenhower to be federally protected national forest land, it was sneakily tacked onto a defense bill after continuously getting shot down prior, and it desecrates sacred Native American lands. This is beautiful land with much climbing. It will be totally destroyed if this goes through, ughhhhhh! HELP!

Latest stats: 752 signatures are needed by Jan 3rd to reach 100,000 - this can happen!!! What does signing this petition do?
We created We the People because we want to hear from you. If a petition gets enough support, White House staff will review it, ensure it’s sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response.
~at least this is something!!!!!

(reposting link for good measure)
Conservation advocates and American Indian groups, particularly the San Carlos Apache Tribe, have for years been trying to block the swap, saying the mine would damage natural resources and culturally sensitive areas. A site called Apache Leap in the Tonto National Forest has been of particular concern.

Thanks for signing the petition, I truly hope it is effective, it would help restore a lot of faith in government and our voice in matters! ~Catherine

Signed as I don't like the method used to get this pushed through. 2000 acres of NF for 5000 acres of private might be a fair deal.

I don't know enough details to know if I support this or not. But I want a better process for it's consideration.

This is a proposal that has been legislatively defeated a dozen times, so McCain slipped it into the "must pass" spending bill. I don't know what good the petition will do, it's more or less a done deal, barring a successful lawsuit.

The area is also known as Queen Creek, site of the Phoenix bouldering competition for many years. Resolution Mining's plan will turn it into a two mile wide crater.

Already done a couple weeks ago. The LAST thing we need to do is sell mineing rights to China, (who is hording RRE), or Austrailia for that matter even if it wasn't located where it is. Somebody's pockets are being lined again, this time with a sacred land grab.

I signed it and wish I could sign it again. This is an area rich in history; for climbers, for the San Carlos Apaches, the people of Superior, the greater Phoenix area and the nation as a whole.

It meant enough to Eisenhower that he protected it from abuses such as this. It took the $ people what, fifty years(?) to work around that.

I've climbed extensively in the area, establishing perhaps dozens of routes. It's a wonderland that has to be experienced to be appreciated. Thousands of people have experienced a high legal of adventure, through pioneering new routes on hooks and top down -One of the text book areas for distinctions of these styles.- and through the
Phoenix Bouldering contests, which brought hundreds of climbers a year her for over a dozen years.

This is where a lot of the techniques and standards we use today started.
This is a huge part of our history.
There is an unimaginable wealth of new routes and problems to be done here.

Let the Chinese (Australian? British?) interests chop up their own history and leave ours' and that of the original inhabitants' alone!

If you are a climber, or someone interested in history, or someone who cares about the natural world, please sign this!
