Got a call from the waay back machine.
One of my oldest climbing partners in the world, melski, with too many damn skeletons in the closet to even count, is looking for some beta.
He's asking about a peak/wall/dome south of 50, off to the west of 376. He says it "appears" to be good stone. He has not provided any pics yet.
He says Round Mtn is too far south. French Peak? Toiyabe Range Peak?
Anybody? Hello? ......Beuhler??

Its called the Granite Wilds. Long approach to 1000+ foot granite walls. The front wall ends as a distinct pinnacle summit, requiring rappel exit. There is a 2x12 nailed to a pinion pine tree in the closest undeveloped campsite showing the course of a couple of routes. Little information has ever leaked out about the stellar climbs present here. It appears the late Alvin McClane was the first pioneer. Don't have any pictures on this computer, but may post some from my lower 48 computer later.
About 20 miles down hwy 376 from hwy 50 junction.

Awesome. I would love to see some pictures, as would melski, who I expect to see post up here at some point.

There are at least three pictures on Google Earth, about 10 miles east of Austin, then 26 miles south of 50 and immediately west of 376.

Maybe this Thing? I was on my way home from Idaho in August and snapped a pic of this interesting formation. The photo was taken south-bound on HWY 376 facing west.
