What happened to the balloon? Space trash?

That kind of self-oriented impact is just like climber chalk. Or petroglyphs. Or 'art' in our national parks.

Any balloon would eventually burst and fall back to the ground. Balloons cannot leave the atmosphere. They are lighter by volume than the surrounding atmosphere.

It sounds like a very cool way to attempt it.

From what the article appears to say, he did not use a pod during the ride to altitude. He hung beneath the balloon, which was probably much smaller than Baumgardner's. it didn't have to carry all of that extra weight.

I saw the Red Bull Stratos pod at the Smithsonian's gigantic hanger out by Dulles airport last month. It was fairly small, but high tech.

This was much cooler. It was not the attention seeking type of jump that Felix did. The guy kept it all secret and just up and did it.

Who would have thought that Felix's record would last only a year.

I like the simpler method. I kinda thought that since you have a pressure suit on anyway why need a pressurized capsule for a short flight?

I did very much enjoy the production Redbull made. NASA could learn a thing or two about promoting spaceflight from those guys.

None of these guys can hold a candle to Jumpin' Joe. First thing he did when he touched down after his 103,000 foot jump was was spark up a camel. Didn't even have his helmet off yet.

^^^ Joe was a hoot in the documentary Mission to the Edge of Space. He really made that whole show worth watching. Surprisingly Fleix was shown in a bad light, cursing and demeaning other members of the team then acting like he was the only one that mattered after it was over.

I'm glad the record got broken by a computer geek that doesn't dress in leather pant suits.
