I like Zep, but they stole a bunch and didn't give anybody credit until they were sued.

Nah, Deuce is actually KD Lang, can't you guys remember anything?

and led zepplin isn't fit to suck the who or stone's donkey's dick...

Plus they may also have started the whole wrong spelling in rock n roll thing! That's even worse than their lame ass watered down, white boy britt watered down fake blues thing.

They're also somewhat responsible for heavy metal, boo hiss!

Now Dread Zepplin, they rock! so those limey losers do get some points for providing some proto tunes for them to cover and perfect!

So is this were I needed to be

clearly Floyd was In the deep end of the pool

stones and the Who, riding on Beatles coat tails
And wordwide withdrawls when yoko smacked the great man.

Led Zep was a dirty marketing secret that both worked and went global
Sneaking over here white boys on tour Bonham was so a better drummer
than all the others and when he went pop so did the zep I had tics to see them ...
Canceled the tour '79?

The other names ELP, Jethro Tull. Black Sabeth, Yes, queen, Kansas...??
helped elivate the sound that was morffing into heavy metal

thought experiment:

imagine your local county or state fair is having a battle of the bands, the prize is $300 and a gift certificate at Olive Garden. Each of the three bands being discussed here, at its peak, is an entrant.

I cannot even begin to imagine a scenario where Zeppelin does not win in the most convincing manner.

Can anyone imagine the Who or the Stones showing up Zep? Rocking harder or heavier? Having more charisma? It's literally fantastic to think that Zeppelin wouldn't swagger to a blow-out win.

Haha some serious sour grapes on those videos.

There's many ways to judge artists. But you can't discount popularity, it's one of the few things that's objective.

And when you are talking about rock and rock and roll, there's

The Beatles
Elvis Presley
Led Zeppelin

(Pink Floyd and Elton John are also up there)

And then there's everyone else.

Not only are those 3 more popular they also helped create their styles of music and helped define their era. The same can't be said about the others.

There's other more subjective measurements. Led Zeppelin were all considered virtuoso's on their instruments/vocals. Their song writing was amazing. The played a variety of styles, fold, acoustic, eastern, etc. and really along with Black Sabbath created hard rock. Their body of work was large with many great songs and they grew as musicians and song writers.

Really Zep was the end of the eras of a dominant rock start band ruling the airwaves. And we likely won't see it again in this day of so many choices and varying tastes.

The Who was very influential and helped progress rock music and lead the way for progressive rock. Keith Moon was as heavy hitting as Bonham but Bonham's beats and fills were amazing. I have no doubt Bonham could play Moon, but could Moon have played Bonham? Roger Daltry's voice isn't distinctive enough for me to be considered as good a singer as Plant, never mind the range and song writing.

I give the Stones a lot of credit for lasting as long as they have and having an impressive body of work. Still getting along and making music and touring. They really came a long way since learning to write songs watching Lennon and McCartney.

Page's guitar playing and development of what can be done on the guitar blow away anything from the Who or The Stone IMO. Yes Zep lifted a lot of stuff on their early albums but they clearly developed the hell out of it. A LOT of blues is based on earlier blues songs. And I do tend to get Zepplined out. I never really liked Dazed and Confused and their more strung out stuff.

I was thoroughly impressed by Entwistle live. I never realized how good he was. They played well.

The Stones was the biggest rip off concert I ever went to. This was in the mid 90s. Everyone else was charging $25-$35 and they charged $55 for a coliseum show. They were good, but not that good. After that everyone started pumping their rates up, bastards!

SRV was awesome live. But he wasn't as versatile as Plant. Definitely Hendrix derived.

Speaking of Hendrix, he's a good example of someone extremely influential and talented who just wan't going to appeal to the masses as much as other here. Too far out there I guess.

Yes was great in concert. But progressive rock is always going to have a limited (nerdy) audience.

Pink Floyd was awesome live. The spectacle is unsurpassed! And they played well.

I just saw Paul McCartney at the farewell to Candlestick concert. He was amazing. 72 years old and just owning the place. Sounded great.

I've been lucky and have rarely seen a bad show. So many others sounded great, Van Halen were super fun great arena rock, ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Steely Dan, The Eagles, Santana, Journey.

The one classic rock band (still around) that I still need to see is AC/DC.

I'm bummed I'll never get to see Queen, Bob Marley, and Hendrix. Maybe in Heaven.
