I think just cell phone........they were supposed to be back in LA tonite....but their car is still in the Parking lot...and no communication from them since Friday.....I would imagine a search party will be sent up in the AM, if they do not hike out tonite or early tomorrow.

I am hoping for the best too......I believe a search and rescue team will be organizing this AM and going up to the mountains to search. I talked to Inyo Sheriff this AM and that is the plan as of now. Thanks for the info and support........I'm sure we will know more tonite.

I got caught out in a blizzard at the top of the U Notch on our way down from North Pal late one afternoon. Ended up bivvying right there for the night. Made it down cold and tired the next day. Spent an additional day in base camp at Sam Mack Lake enjoying the mountains, refueling body and mind before hiking out.
An extra 24-36 hours after a light snowstorm isn't necessarily a sign of trouble.
Good luck to them

Hi Todd,

A friend and I camped at Sam Mack Meadow Saturday night. Like Chief mentioned, thunder and lightning through the night followed by snow in the morning. From my conversations with others on the trail, I don't think anyone camped at Gayley. (Could be wrong though.)

We saw 3 climbers from San Diego decide to attempt N. Col. on Sill (left Sam Mack ~6:30am on Sat). Heard there was a party that came back down from Sill Friday night, I didn't see them though.

Those 2 parties and ourselves were the only ones camped at Sam Mack on Saturday night.

I'll call they guy I was with and see if he saw anything, but I don't recall ever seeing another climbing team of 2 out there (or anyone looking to do U-Notch or V-Notch)

Fingers crossed!

Tood, if they stayed at Gayley Camp, they may have chosen to wait a day, like high traverse suggested. One time I was up there and we got about 6" of the fresh stuff overnight. We hiked out that morning, which absolutely sucked. Lots and lots of snow covered slabs. They may have been smarter and gave it a day to let the stuff slough off or melt some.

Sorry to hear Todd! Hope you're friends are just delayed!

On a side note, in hopes of getting more people to see this thread and spread the word or offer up info, I would suggest changing the thread title. I clicked on it to see if there were any cool pictures. I could have just passed on by without doing so. I always follow the missing people's threads.

Just my 2 cents. :)

Todd, you may also want to post a similar thread on summitpost.org. Lots of Eastside locals peruse that site.

Our friends have made it out of the mountains and they are OK...they just somehow got "stuck".......and they are safe and on their way home. Thanks for all the community care, support, help and concern. Climbers do come together when it counts;....which is cool to know....very very cool.
This one had a good ending;...which isn't always the case. Climbing is a dirty and dangerous activity. Anyways;...thanks again for all the good vibes and concern. Another reason to celebrate the day!.....The Inyo search and rescue and Sheriff people were way cool, very awesome, and starting to get way busy with the search and rescue, which, of course, was called off when our friends turned up. A huge big thanks to them as well......Bravo!..
