Hi Folks,

Sorry about the Cerro Torre yes/no question.

I realize now, it was just plain dumb! As there was virtually nothing positive on the thread, I did the right thing and dumped it

Still, you live and learn.

If, as the pundits claim, the whole yes/no thing was a non starter. Deleting the thread was the common sense thing to do.

Please, don't tell me the same people who were rubbishing the concept are now bagging me for removing it.

You can't have it both ways!

I didn't see the thread, but sounds like you started a climbing thread and an ethical thread. Those quickly turn into a religious and political thread. I enjoy your posts Avery, no need to apologize.

who is bagging on you for chopping it?

maybe realize that people have different senses of humor.

they also have their own hang ups and weirdnesses.

the internet seems to bring out the contrariness in people.. But it can also just be people going for a joke that falls flat..

Avery...lighten up. Your thread was far from the worst to populate this forum. Jeez, it was even about climbing...fancy that!

I still remember, in the early 80's. Bill Denz, wild eyed, tightly clutching a cigarette, raving with amazement and awe about the infamous compressor. It's amazing how attitudes change.
Bill spent months in the early 80's trying to solo the compressor route, coming within 300ft a couple of times.

Ah....the compressor. A number of years ago I was on the headwall in a ferocious storm. I was leading the bolted pitch to the compressor in furious winds and near total whiteout. I only saw the compressor when I was a few meters away. Much to my chagrin the compressor had created a micro climate and the last three meters to it the bolts were completely covered by a gently overhanging veil of ice. I went from aiders to ice climbing mode and hooked the compressor for my last tool placement.
Greg Crouch forged ahead on the next pitch but the intensifying storm turned us around forty meters from the summit. The ensuing descent at night in hurricane conditions with malfunctioning headlamps assumed epic status.....but that is a whole other story.
