Hi all. Sorry for being a stranger for awhile...I've been busy with life stuff, training, competing and winning some paraclimbing competitions. I recently placed first at the USA National Paraclimbing Championships in my category (Neuro) and across all female categories, in spite of competing with a broken finger :/

My strong finish has given me the incredible opportunity and honor to represent the USA at the 2014 World Paraclimbing Championships in Gijon, Spain: http://www.ifsc-climbing.org/index.php/world-competition/world-championships

(My backstory (haha) can be found here: http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.php?topic_id=1292707&msg=2006748#msg200%206748);

Unfortunately, it is going to be an expensive trip. I have started an IndieGogo campaign to help me raise the necessary funds:

Please help support me in my goal. I hope that together we can inspire others to do better.

All my best,

Wendy Ong

P.S. I'm very excited to be a part of the AAC International Climbers Meet in the Valley in October! I hope to meet/climb with some of you there.

Have to support this! Having spent the past three years recovering from much, much less significant injuries that still took me out of the game, I want to support your spirit in not only getting back out there but getting after it big time! And anyone who ice climbs is all right in my book! Hope to see you out on the ice one of these days. Just look for the chick in the neon pink leopard skin gaitors and that will be me. And in the small world of climbing, you are only two degrees of separation since my friend Alex climbs with Clint who climbs with you. Give 'er!!!

Thanks so much every one! I am so touched that people have been so generous. I am almost at my (monetary) goal. I need to think of what special prize/perk to give to that person that makes me reach it; like those radio shows that give a prize to caller number 17.

Yes, I'm hoping that the broken finger and ligament will let me go to Yosemite in October for the AAC International Climbers Meet. No finger cracks though, and even making a fist hurts a lot.

Trying to keep the conditioning up, even though my hands and fingers are withering away from an enforced rest from training, but that isn't going to fly. Just trying to avoid permanent damage or the possibility of hand-surgery and being out for, like, a year. Oh well. I'm bummed I won't be able to climb at 100% of my abilities, but there are far worse things in life. You would think that my accident etc would have given me perspective on this kind of thing. Nope, I can still get just as poopy as I ever did from not climbing :) Makes me feel like a one-dimensional meat-head jock sometimes.

Alright Wendy! I put you over the top!!!

For my climb with me perk, the gym just ain't gonna cut it!

I suggest you fly up to Vancouver next year, i'll pick u up and we can go do an incomplete paraplegic ascent of the Chief together!

That would be so cool!!

Good luck at the Worlds!!!!!!

Mike! I would love that. We can trade battle stories...or not. The last time I did the Grand Wall was with my good friend Natalie in July 2010, just a few months before my accident, so Squamish occupies a very poignant place in my heart.

And, being raised in HK, a trip to Hong-couver is a good way to alleviate any home-sickness :)

On Wendy Ong's blog
http://wendyong.org/
you can read about a serious setback she had just after Memorial Day.
She got sepsis, which is not easy to diagnose for some spinal cord injuries, and ended up in the ICU but fortunately beat the odds (mortality rate 53% for sepsis).
After she got out, she realized she got a side effect from the sepsis - it wiped out a lot of her muscle mass.
But she's back training to get it back again.
