Sorry to hear this Paul, hope he's just enjoying his time in the mountains a bit longer.

Saw your entry in the summit register on peak 13,360' over the weekend. Hope you enjoyed the evo traverse. Looks like we missed each other by a few days; too bad as I would have enjoyed meeting a fellow ST poster out on those peaks.

I was dealing with AMS and it wasn't getting any better. We had an epic bail off to the West down a gully right before Mendel. TR to follow.

Anyone familiar with the "Goddard Loop"?

I'm assuming Goddard Canyon, over some pass on Goddard, and up Evolution Basin on the JMT back to Florence, or the reverse.

When I did it we crossed over through a low pass between Davis Lakes Basin and Lake Wanda. The going is almost all class 1 with a bit of scrambling. An enjoyable and low risk trip.

I've also gone up Goodard Canyon, then into the Ionian Basin with a side trip up Goddard, over to the JMT and back down to Florence Lake. While mostly talus and scree, there were certainly places that could result in a broken leg or worse if you fell.

I keep looking for positive news, and am keeping my hopes up.

John - I have also done the trip going through Ionian Basin instead of over the "Davis Lakes Pass". That is a much more demanding trip with a greater opportunity for injury. I believe the Davis option gets more traffic and Ionian is somewhat infrequently traveled.
Except for the cross-country sections between Martha Lake and Wanda Lake, the loop is on either the JMT or well-defined and travelled spur trails.

Been into Goddard from Courtright Resevoir via Black Cap Basin and a knapsack pass. Back over Hell-for-Sure Pass. Reilly(of ST fame) was in on that trip as well. I think he was 13 or 14(I was 12).

Best of luck to the searchers!

Paul,

I am hoping he found some awesome terrain he liked rather than a bad situation. Hoping for the best!

Talked to an NPS investigator and she said that he had signed the Goddard summit register.

Paul, that news will isolate the search I'd imagine. Prayers for a good outcome.

Im happy to report that Gregg has been found alive with a broken leg. I read that he broke his while descending Goddard and was found around 10k feet.
