I know this is going to sound like heresy, but I have never really liked any of Zappa's music. I liked him, I liked his style, but his music was some of the most unenjoyable out there. It often had this disjointed, jazz undercurrent, was layered with none too good sounding arrangements, and just left me wanting to leave the room. And I like some weird stuff, like Zoogz Rift and the Residents. And all of those explanations about how great musicians worked with Frank and how much a perfectionist he was just don't make the music any better. And what was it with all of the xylophones?
None the less, Frank was a super cool guy. It's just that his taste was what it was.

once apon a time I heard somewhere that Zappa invented the 64 track recording system.
Even though King Tubby never need it.

"It often had this disjointed, jazz undercurrent.." well yeah, if that's a problem, then maybe Frank isn't for you, Stich. I think that's part of what does it for a lot of us.
OT, I wonder if there Are enough of us for a Residents thread?

Zoogz Rift used heavy fusion jazz sounds on his Island of Living Puke album, but I just like the way it came out better. Franks vocals are kind of too smooth and sleazy sometimes. If music is weird, I prefer it to be just demented.
I do like Frank's Asshole song. Perhaps there is more within his discography that I need to sample. Care to offer up your favorite tracks?
The Residents thread is kind of off and running, though the title is a bit obscure.

"I know this is going to sound like heresy, but I have never really liked any of Zappa's music"...
I am with you on this one...
Zappa was a extreamly inventive and creative and that I have always respected... I will admit that when we used to "trip". "Suzy Creamcheese" would take us somewhere else all together...

Billy, BIlly, Billy,
Lynyrd Skynyrd were cool...
My tastes lean heavily toward Hendrix, Led Zeplin, Jonny Winters, Ten Years After and Britney Spears...
Zappa just wasn't my thing!!! Neither was that little wimp "Gram Parsons".. (that one will get a rise!!!)

Zappa played music from many genre rock, jazz, classical and some of what to me is just zappa. So you maybe right that even if you don't like the Zappa music you've heard to date there may still be some Zappa music you'll like out there some where.
