Fasting anybody?

I used to do 10 day fasting (water only) twice a year. I haven't done it for over a year now, mostly because of health problems. Fasting kept me healthy.

I am starting fasting again despite my current health problems. I have never tried fasting while being ill. I am not sure what is going to happen, but I am tired of going from one doctor to the other. The side effects of the medications gave me a lot of trouble.

So, today I am on cooked vegetables and juice. Tomorrow my fasting begins.

Wish me luck.

The juice of one lemon, warm water, cayenne pepper and a dash of maple syrup makes a good cleanse, too.

I used to fast 3 days a month, then 13 days a quarter and 24 days a year.

It kept me in the best long distance Nordic ski racing shape, evah, climbing, too, for that matter. But, during the fasts I couldn't climb. . . I was WAY too tripped out. . . I actually called them "SLOWS."

But. . . I could ski.

You really should keep your fisting issues to your personal emails...

It is WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION to share on ST...

Is locker a fisting expert? Lulz

I fast in the sense that I can go all day with no food, only water. Not sure what benefit this has other than making me super bitchy and cantankerous :/
I like feeling hungry sometimes.

Moose,

Sorry to hear about you being ill.
What's going on? Have you been diagnosed?

Next time you're in the area, let me know
we'll get out or hit the gym in Incline, lots

Very funny, Fish Finder. Post a video with instructions.

But seriously, fasting is more than just cleansing. During fasting your body operates in a "survival mode". Damaged cells get repaired, for example. My arthritis goes into remission for a month or so. I loose about 15 pounds in 10 days, but I get back 10 after a week.

Moose,

I do a ten day cleanse twice a year. The first three days consist of cutting your food intake in half each day consecutively till you are eating very almost nothing. Also you are supposed to eat only steamed vegetables for these first three days. After that it 6 days of drinking homemade organic Apple juice like 8-10 a day and that's it! On day seven you can eat a whole apple to get your body used to solid food again.

I buy a kit from these guys.

I know I could just drink the juice and not eat.

I get very very cranky and turn into quite the savage at like day three. Headaches mood aches you name it. The stuff that comes out your ass though Is so f*#king gross that it is motivation enough to stay the course as you know that what is coming outa you can't be good to have in your body.

Post cleanse I feel great, like great! The best thing is it shrinks my stomach so much it takes about 4 months to start eating portions that are wasteful to big and bad for my health. Plus you end up a ripped lean pile of striated muscle and veins I a insane way!

I have never done it sick and I don't think I would. I don't do it when i am training hard either. I do it at the transitions from ice to rock season and rock to ice season as I try and take two weeks recovery between seasons anyway.

Before I fractured my calcaneus I was actually gearing up to do a cleanse. I had taken a week to nix the coffee and was at day two of cutting my food intake. I was kinda pissed? Not doing it now as my body needs the nutrition to fix this foot.

Also of you don't like the pills and western medicine has left you stranded as it does so many find a network of good alternative medicine doctors.

Applied kinesiology has worked wonders for me and quite a few other!

Pills suck!

I've experimented with intermittent fasting but never gone for multiple days. Do you find that you are useless in the periods in which you don't eat for multiple days? Not sure I could find the downtime to allow it; I think I'd be severely limited in ability. Neat idea, though.

Bill, my health deteriorated after the surgery over a year ago. I got terrible stomach problems, which caused malnutrition. Then another surgery, then shingles, then chronic sinus infections, then tendonitis. I just recently got my stomach back to work, so I can do my fasting.

If everything goes well, I will go to Yosemite at the end of April to climb with Donini. Then I am going to Hawaii for a couple of weeks. Maybe I will see you at Woodfest, if you decided to come this year.

Stuv, I did it many times while working in the lab. Sure, you get weak and slow, but not too terribly. I wouldn't do it if I had to use my muscles a lot.

Moosey, you should do what I did, once. I gave a pint of blood and the
next day went out and soloed a peak in the Cascades. Hey, I never claimed
to be smart, did I? Adrenaline got me up the technical stuff but towards
the top it was just plowing through mid-thigh Cascade concrete to the summit.
That's where I learned where the term 'running on fumes' comes from.
