Any info on when and how far the road is open for ski touring access?

Don't know. It's still winter up there, though.
As for the West slope, go park at Crane Flat and start skiing up the road. Don't forget to take along some good sunscreen and a few cans of Coca Cola.

Then let us know what it's like when you get back.

Have faith--there will be enough snow, most likely, because it's all shady on the road, but probably very wet in the late mornin' and afternoon.

The short run from Crane Flat to the lookout might be sketchy for snow cover right now, at best.

Badger was scheduled to close on March 17 and probably has, though I'm not positive, just 90% so.

As for the East Side access, just hope for some local to post, but I'll bet the road from LV up to the Pass is streaming with run-off.

Yeah, but they are connected. A real man could go and see from the West side, Brandon. :0)

The gate is at about 7500 ft.

Even in good years you usually end up walking to about 9000 ft.

Our standard MO was to start late from LA and hike to the big horseshoe turn where the 9,000 ft sign is in the afternoon, (which is also the only avalanche safe place on the road to stop)

Bivy and ski into the meadows the next day.
