New Zealand...isn't that where the climbers come from? Heck you have the Alps without the people, beautiful area.

That's exactly right Mark. Back in my climbing days (the 80s and 90s) you could consider yourself very unlucky if you stumbled across anybody (or anything)
Things are a bit different nowadays.(Peter Jackson has a lot to answer for.)

It greatly depends on where you are vlani. The weather in NZ runs the entire range of possibilities. The west of the south island is known for its high rainfall(and spectacular native bush) While the eastern parts of the island are predominately warm and dry. For example, Blenheim, where I live, (which is in the northeast tip of the south island) is famous for its grape growing and fine wines. The Blenheim climate is superb.

Good Question...

Though no climbing photos my last trip was wonderful. I had my wife and two daughters with me which was very special.

I did spend 3 weeks on the South island back in '69 when I was with my family moving from Australia to Hawaii. It was June I think and we froze our butts off. Still it was an incredible and memorable trip. Biking, hiking, freezing, glacier exploring we crammed a lot into those weeks.
NZ, probably the most perfect country in every aspect. Fishing, hiking, eating, fine people, wonderful wine, killer surfing, bush walks, rainforest, mountains, lakes, rivers, biking, the list goes on and on.
My greatest regret is that I never went early enough to take advantage of the need BITD for teachers (which I have been for many years).
Thanks for sharing your photos with us Avery!
cheers

Well, your welcome, but really you've shared a lot with us here lately and know it's been fun scrolling through them, and too it ain't no lie, that country is one sweet part of this earth.
I hope you guys continue to care for it and keep it special.
If I could only figure out how to live there...:-)

Great shots Avery. I've probably done 5 or 6 trips into the Nelson lakes area between 1977 and 80. Frightening to think that I haven't been there in almost 35 years. But to remedy this I think I'll be back early in next year.
Thanks for the memories,
Roy

Roy, you'll be pleased to know the place hasn't changed in 35 years. I live in Blenheim which is just an hour or so from Nelson Lakes, so I can visit there on a fairly regular basis. Appreciate your comments.
