If any one out there knows of anyone who might be in the possession of rare Tobin Sorenson photos I would like to hear from them.
There are of course the half dozen or so "standard" pics of Sorenson which are easily accessed in other parts of this forum. It's pointless re-posting those.

A couple of people have asked about my interest in Tobin Sorenson.
He made such a huge "splash" when he visited New Zealand in 1979 that I always tried to keep an eye on what he was climbing. I barely had time to blink and he was dead... A genuine tragedy. Ever since I've always kept an eye out for articles and photos of this truly exciting and all to rare climbing personality.

The Yankee Kiwi line on Hicks is a real stunner. Put up by Cradock and Sorenson. A day later they put up an easier line: "The Curver". Repeated the Curver a few years later and it was a hell a of good climb. The Central Gullies being the one that gets done the most.

Tobin bump for the Kiwi.
My Pacific Ocean Wall partner on El Cap was a Kiwi. The great John Dale, a Gore boy, sheepherder, sailor, wall climber, great human being.
(I must remember to have the word rare engraved on my tombstone somewhere)

In the eighties I met up with a man from NZ, a two-roper. We went up the E.B.MCR, the Yank way with just the one rope.
The next day we went on Royal Arches and on up to North Dome for the minimal 5.10 bolted route, using his method.
A rare glimpse into the strange and bothersome;
but never again, at least on sound rock or on a traverse.

I remember John Dale being one of best kiwi climbers of his generation.
John McCallum is another climber who (if I could be so bold) fits comfortably into the same category. The Tingler (6+) on Hicks is confirmation of that.
Remember, "Survival", with a single spelling mistake you can end up with all sorts of colorful connotations defining your character!

I sent several slides of Tobin freeing the Vampire and climbing Insomnia Crack to Robs Muir a couple of years ago. Robs was then to pass them on to Dean Feidleman (aka Bullwinkle} for the next Stonemaster book. Cheers, Bruce

In 2002, I climbed the Yankee-Kiwi Couloir on the South Face of Mt Hicks with Jay Smith and we both agreed, the route was way ahead of its time like most of what Tobin did. My hat is off to the guy. Thanks for sharing the pics and memories.
