We have a group camp reserved at City of Rocks for the nights of Monday June 23rd -Thursday June 26th, with checkout on Friday June 27th.

I had dinner with Donini & his wife Angela the night of the Outdoor Retailer Jeff Lowe award. He worked me to get off my ass and make reservations for a camp at City of Rocks, with a preference for a week earlier. I spent a while at the online reservation site, and was astounded to find that all my favorite large van-friendly campsites at COR were reserved during those dates. (Everything at Smoky Mountain was still open----but I missed camping with the rocks and the views last year.)

However! I was able to reserve the group camp out at Twin Sisters for the nights of Monday June 23 thru 26, with checkout on Friday June 27. El Donini confirmed those dates work for him, as did Ralph T.(AK Trad on ST), Brokedownclimber, and even Spider Savage thinks he can make it towards the end of the week.

We do want to invite other like-minded folks, young or old.

The Group Camp is a great private place with scenic views, a fair number of tent spots and parking spots, a toilet, and climbing right from camp. 12-30 people are allowed. Not a lot of afternoon shade, but we have a large fly we can rig.

I have been in contact with the MOUNTAIN HOLY MAN acquaintance of Donini's, & he believes he may be able to visit too (http://www.supertopo.com/climbers-forum/2309904/Donini-and-the-Mountain-Holy-Man-at-17-777Ft-in-Szechuan.

He does share my concerns about camping with a larger group. If you would like to camp, or visit at the Group Camp: we do ask attendees to leave their pets and their small children at home, both for the safety of the small children & pets, and also to maintain a harmonious environment for all attendees.

Please RSVP! (Idaho parlance for: Reserve potatoes via phoning.) Space is limited at the Group Camp.

Please confirm in private and I will keep a list of attendees that I will not make public, or if you want to be public---confirm on this site.

Namaste.

Elcapinyoazz: This is from COR website:

Plane:
The nearest air service is Burley (charter) 45 miles north, Twin Falls (85 miles NW), Salt Lake City (170 miles SE), Boise (215 miles NW), Pocatello (100 miles NE).

Brokedown Climber flew into Burley with his plane a couple years back and was able to rent a car through the airport folks. It takes a bit more than an hour to drive from Burley to COR.

Love COR. Got an Onsight of Skyline on Morning Glory Spire.
Got a one way ride out there and hitchhiked back cause I really wanted that one.
It was worth it! I'd do it again.

Rock is off the hook AWESOME!

Can't commit to the party as I have 3 big walls in Yosemite a road trip
to Red Rocks, Indian Creek, and Colorado in May.

The Adveture Queen loves COR too! It won't take much for to be convinced.
Here is a pic of the return trip after the Onsight of Skyline

This is at the campground: Indian Chief Rock, Flake Route (5.5).

There's a nice crapper at the campground along with a couple tables. No water available here, but there is a faucet at the Bath Rock parking area.

Is it a prerequisite that you be over 50yr old to attend?

Young or old of compatable spirit are welcomed.

Ezra last year in his 30's & Max & Steffi in their late 20's.

We all really like to have some young folks around-----if they are fun.

Hey Fritz, Great idea and thanks for organizing. I will probably be able to attend this year, but I will probably fly in to SLC and rent a car, then try to stay at the cabins in Almo, rather than camping at the group site. Are you (or anybody else) thinking you might be there the weekend before or after those dates as well?

phylp! That's great! You are more than welcome. No weekend plans for us. Anyone else there on either weekend?

I may be looking at a wider envelope of dates, and it depends on the availability of a campsite at Smoky Mountain. If I come and stay longer, I'll be driving; otherwise flying into Burley.

Sounds like great fun. Unfortunately, BrassNuts and I have a previous commitment at that time. We look forward to seeing photos of the shindig!

I'm a 9-5 M-Fer so the weekend is a better option for me.

Always fun at the City!

I'd love to see you there.

Wayno & all. It could be a memorable get-together.

You never know what late June weather can bring, but it likely will be real pleasant-----or not.
