no one has ever climbed here before except me and a few people. it looks to have potential for "fun" but nothing a serious rock climber would travel out of his/her way too. but its the only local thing to coalinga ca. If your on your way to Pinnacles from fresno/ cen cal area if you take 198 to highway 25 its at most a 20 min side trip.have only TR all but one route so far so maybe its not an offical first accents but i really dont care about all that. there are tons of climbs here waiting to be done though on good solid rock once its been climbed a few times. some routes are perfect ready to go however. just thought i would share. if your ever in the coalinga ca area and wana climb message me. theres tons of new routes waiting to be climbed and probably wont be climbed till someone else does them as i am still a noob. theres also a awesome place to get a steak or country food about 1/2 hr away. its a little place called parkfield. maybe youve heard of it.

im always looking for local stuff to climb. saves $ on gas. not having much luck though. only found one other spot thats kindof like pinnacles rock, " kind of" but it crumbles alot easier and have only found one good solid spot to climb on it. its silica carbonate reef if that means anything to anyone. theres tooonnnnsss of cool minerals and rocks to find though thats usually why im there. mostly only climb this rock looking for new mineral pockets.

Nice, I used to go to Coalinga fossil hunting. Can you get to Three Rocks (Joaquin Rocks)legally at this time? That place is very cool.

doughnut idk if you remember but we were thinking about going up to 3 rocks together and checking out the climbing. as far i know its still legal to drive to the gate at wright mt and hike in 4-5 miles to the rocks, though the gate has a false link in the chain making it accesable to drive to the rocks if you want to risk it. havent been there yet but as soon as i get back to california im hoping to go. the weather should be good. better than the 8 degrees here in minnesota

I do remember and I still want to go. I called the BLM office in October and was told it was not legal to go there. Maybe I'll just head out there and risk it (not driving in) and take my mountain bike in for a visit.

thats wierd. i wonder why it would be illegal? i was in the area not to long ago on BLM land with permission and everything to see something called birdwells rock. a sacred idian rock with petro's on it. im going no matter what its on blm land and they have no posted signs saying its closed and theres no reason for it to be closed.

RE: Joaquin Rocks

We parked at the gate and road mtn bikes along the EZ dirt road. Lots of ticks in the grass in the winter so check your socks/ shoes after walking between the road and the rock. Very cool looking sandstone rock out there.

I posted these pics a couple years ago here on the taco-

Whose got the biggest balls of them all?

The best rock is actually the balls themselves- some sort of patina that makes them.. uh.. harder than the surrounding rock. The rock there is OK in some places, crappy in others, however I'd say it's worth bringing a rope and some gear to set up a TR on a face or for some easy gear leads.

We included target shooting (not near the rocks) and mtn. biking when we went for a fun weekend.

sounds like a fun weekend. been thinking about hiking up to them from my house but Mt bike would probably be funner. you can shoot for days up there and no one seems to care. well in the clear creek area idk about by the rocks, but then again whos going to hear you? did you happen to feel any ghostly spirits passing by you up there? lol research mariana la loca if your bored. crazy interesting 3 rocks history
