Earlier today I posted about a craigs list deal that was too hard to believe it wasn't hot gear. From everything I can figure it was just one of the more ridiculously good deals I've seen.

the powder bag comment was funny and the 100m rope description curious. It looks like the guy did two or three top ropes on all the gear and called it quits. judging from the fact that only one of the draws shows any wear I'm scared to think how this was rigged.

mad rock belay device, mad rock harness, mad rock chalk bag (powder bag ;), petzl elios helmet (fits, needed one, score), scarpa veloce size 45.5 in almost perfect shape.

and then there's the rope without tags:

It looks like it's a 9.8mm 60m. I checked every inch and there is no wear, no fuzz. I have every reason to think it's as described - three or for easy climbs and no falls. anyone recognize it?

Climbing rope (i think it's 100 meters? don't remember, but it's long and no one has had a fall on it yet. Only used it 3 times for very beginnerish climbs)

So... what would Krshna do with this rope?

^ LOL!!!

dunno, but i found a deal like that, bitd. from this d00d, from hemit. bought a pracatically new rack, rope etc. said he used it a few times and decided to go back to drag racing rails: red flag #1). when i asked why? he says, "because its a much safer sport.": red flag # 2). all in all i thought it was an over all good deal (don't recall the price). when i got home and hand checked the entire length of the rope and found a stiff section about 5 feet long around 20 ft or so from one end: red flag # 3) i give him a call and he then says, "oh yeah, i took a 40' whipper on the left ski track." (tahquitz) which is a steep, exposed route (beaucoup airtime).

if DMT would use it than I shale use it.

The story seems to add up. Except the part about selling $400 worth of gear for $40.

anyone interested in a pair of scarpa veloce size 45.5?

The weird part about the whole exchange was his mom was hitting on me.

LOL

edit: Jeremy's mom sounds like my kinda gal. Whatever happened to Jeremy, haven't noticed any posts in a while?

edit: bottom line: BASIC SURVIVAL INSTINCTS tell ya if ya don't know the complete history of the rope, don't use it, let alone buy it. no matter how new or how good of a deal it is. ok for hauline, top rope use. but is it worth the risk, otherwise. i did buy one similar rope for 20 bucks at an A-16 swap meet. but immediately cut it in half and used one for a woodson top rope. the other half i sold to a buddy for 20 bucks (got my money back) and he used it for the same purpose. ya can top just about all the woodson problems with an 80' cord (and a few 10-20 ft runners, etc).
