Hello everyone!
I don't believe I've posted this so I'm taking the opportunity to now. Before I left on my big Africa trip we finished the first ever Alaska Bouldering Guide. The book is a full color with over 800 problems from several areas around the state. Here is a list of the areas:
Ptarmigan Peak (Anchorage)
Service Boulder (Anchorage)
Byron Glacier
Archangel Valley
Independence Mine
Chickaloon
Wiener Lake
Fairbanks
Juneau
and more...
It is 262 Pages and 6x9.
Sample Page:

Cost is $30!
They can be ordered online at http://www.alaskaboulderingguide.com/
(He also rents crashpads to visitors!)
Thanks!

Its a pretty long season usually from about April - Nov at the most, depending on where you are bouldering.
This isn't my photo but its on the net, from Haines.
So you know theres some down there!

Long time lurker here.
Headed to Alaska next week to see my father who lives in Copper Center. I am going to be there for about a week, and typically I would trad climb. However, my time is limited and I have about 2 free days available to boulder.
Do you have any recommendations for bouldering? I picked up the climbing guide to Alaska assuming it would cover bouldering...
I was thinking of going to Hatcher pass and seeing what all boulders I could find. Also is there camping around that area? Any information or specific beta would be greatly appreciated.

Conditions in Hatcher Pass are primo right now. Some of the sketchy landings are smoothed out with the remaining snow. Archangel road is closed for two more weeks. If you hate walking more than 15 minutes to Boulder, go to the Independence mine area. If you don't mind walking or biking down Archangel road, check out the Reed lakes area, or Glacier creek area. Glacier creek has some super stuff. The end of Archangel has plenty going on too. Just wander around a bit. There is a great concentration of moderate problems at the north east corner of the Lane valley, about 45 minutes past the Monolith, although I think there is still a fair bit of corn snow that high still. Camping is everywhere.

No worries, have fun exploring up there. The wander around and discovery is a great part of the experience up there.

^^^ Maybe... But bacon comes from pigs. Who doesn't like bacon before a day of climbing?
Incidentally..... The pass in the foreground of that last picture has some great bouldering. None of its in the guidebook for some reason...

Come on F, we all know pebble wrestlers won't walk all the way up there. That's at least 45 min from the car. Such an approach! And so much good stone...
