Commander of the International Space Station, Chris Hadfield, singing David Bowie's Space Oddity.

Great footage, and the dude can sing!

Just see ...

Billions and billions of dollars spent just for a space man to sing in space.

HA!!! Classic Werner quote!

There is no space station, it's all a conspiracy by Russia and the USA to suck money out of their countries and distract the sheep from the real issues going on......

He ain't no Gordon Lightfoot, or Elton. I agree with Werner - a huge waste
of money. Any real science is done as well or better by unmanned missions.
I really could give a sh!t if there is water on Mars.

That's not my usual GGNN partner!

Werner's just talking sh#t as usual anyway. He didn't actually say "waste".

The human race's survival might actually depend on things learned up there.

Hey, it's a possibility.

Has there ever been a platform where 60 countries or so shared so much, so peacefully?

Or maybe you prefer we spend a few more trillion for weapons here on Earth?

Well, gud buddy, I'm not opposed to good science in space. I just think the
ISS is more of a show than a bonafide science project. I have quite a few
friends that work at CalTech and JPL and most agree with me that good science
is done on a far more reasonable budget with unmanned missions. It is just
ludicrous the kind of money that would be needed to send people to Mars just
so they can hop around and dig a few holes which any unmanned rover can do
just as well.

And you have probably noted the dearth of GGNN posts lo these past months.
They never seemed to garner more than 4 or 5 replies so why bother? I was
even gonna post up a TR of my recently rumoured presence at JTree,
believe it or knott, but that would have been too embarrassing. ;-0

you will never attract a generation of young students into the sciences by pushing unmanned experiments, while the popularity of this man can and will lead many young minds into something besides business school...

This Canadian [Toronto Mayor Rob Ford] might not be a rock star but he sure parties like one.

Apparently yous guys haven't walked around the campuses of Cal Tech, Harvey Mudd,
or MIT lately. Oh, and JPL is not exactly hurting for job apps even with
the sequestration and all. If you really want to do science your inspiration
most likely isn't gonna be some Gordon Lightfoot wannabe, no matter how
gud he is.

Friends, friends,
Spaceman could be up there on private funds, and things would go a lot better.
I happen to like this song anyway, so cool. Don't worry about space exploration fading: space exploration is still way cool in the private sector.

One group recently founded a new exploration syndicate to invest in free market space exploration. This new exploration group is exciting, founded on exploring without using stolen money, e.g. tax dollars. There are a lot of very brilliant minds already on the team. I think they may make some sort of public announcement before the end of this year.

My gosh, we have whole skies of planets and asteroids to explore! Good singing or bad singing, how about free market songs? I mean, do you think politicians have done a good, or even mediocre job, with Earth, for Heaven or the future's sake?

With free markets, we can have minds from every tribe on Earth exploring our solar system. All that diverse talent! I know some of you are still working on mountains, but there are other sorts of first ascents as well, just use your imaginations. Stop being so paradigm-bound.

It's raining here at the Continental Divide, and the trees are joyfully dancing in the wet, wet breezes.

Now look, rather than bothering to respond to my nattering, go do something beautiful and remarkable with your unique and brilliant being. Play in anarchy. And have entirely too much fun.
I have dragon flies to paint on my tent fly for my next adventure. Photos to follow on my own thread.

Go play in all the energy from this spectacular solar flare. It could improve our brains. Or something like that.

I thought that was really fekin cool video. it struck a chord and made me think of the failed missions, the blown up spaceships, the real danger of being out there hopeing that everything goes as planned and you get back to earth someday in one piece. A fake musac video of some fluffy chick does little for me but this was raw and real. I liked it.

call bullshit reilly - you are saying ten year old kids watching a SPACEMAN for f*#k's sake are not going to be inspired ? wtf dude...seriously ? that the thought of watching a magnetic sensor on an unmanned satellite collect spacedust is just as sexy and exciting as a man in space ? hmmm - so when i grow up I want to pilot unmanned drones on the moon vs when I grow up I want to be an astronaut ?

I take it you don't work with anyone in marketing...
