Yesterday, the crew and I finished installation of the Batten Memorial Bolt on Double Cross. It is now a safe climb for all to enjoy. I do hope our efforts in this regard are properly appreciated and noted.

April fools.....but really the Park Service should put in one of those inch thick eyebolts that go in 18 inches and are nearly non-removable. It's high time we thought about the saftey of beginning leaders! It's 2013 gentleman, risk is no longer an accepted component of climbing.

I agree with Donini. Maybe when we do Scenic Cruse in a few weeks? we can retro the thing and make it safe. You know.... set the 2013 standard.

On the other hand, you can just about reach the top by standing on all the bodies stacked like cordwood there.....

If they rated the thing 5.8 like it is fewer would crater on the route. Wonder what they did on this like 50 years ago? How'd they get the line up there?

Anyone ever do the Split Rock lyback, probably 5.9 or close, free soloed in tennis shoes in 1955 - up AND down.

The bolt would have been better located on El Cap to hold Boot Flake on.

While we're about it, how about a couple of bolts on Coarse and Buggy. Don't need to see people fussing with tricky gear placements.
