If the weather stays like this, I say May 1st
but yet Werner says

The govt. is broke.

You all have to do it by hand as volunteers.

Are ya up for it?

Bring your shovels and start shoveling .....

I'm with Werner. Every year, the NPS plows the Tioga Road to get it open earlier than it would be if all they did was wait for natural snow melt. Unless the snow melts on its own at 10,000 feet by May 1, the road won't open without plowing. We no longer have the Tioga Pass webcam, but I seriously doubt that Dana Meadows, not to mention some parts east and west thereof, will be sufficiently snow free to open the Road then.

While the government is far from broke,, the politics and theater of increasing spending less than what the Administration desires will cause any possible public inconvenience to happen, just to make points with the public.

I would like to have the pass open, but we also need snow. This will be the second year in a row with well below averages if we don't have a wet spring.

The govt. is broke.

The government is not broke, they just choose not to collect taxes from the wealthy, and are currently not choosing to pay for everyday expenses.

I blame the republicons as they are the ones who want to get rid of all government and completely privatize everything.

Tioga Toll Road coming to a National park near you soon!!!

It's not a toll road? Seems like it to me.
Why do we pay taxes? So the government can hire someone to collect Tolls.

too early to tell yet, spring usually dumps. Skied great powder in May a few years.

We had a fake spring this past week in the Teton's, I knew it wouldn't last, snow and colder temps are coming back this week.

I think its about time they remove Tioga Road and return the area to a more natural state.

Are they still planning on starting the multi-year nightmare of repaving/widening project this summer? Its going to be a good few years to skip Tuolumne with all that chaos.

Adamame, "Skip Tuolumne"?

Why would one do that? Let the Turons have the place to themselves? No way. I plan on my best season ever up there.

I love this place, the Eastern Sierra. I have done some training and studying to make this my best summer ever. I pick up tons of trash on my non work days.

Can't wait to get back home. :DD lynnie

Reading the parks website to try and figure out if they will be doing road construction this summer is an exercise in insanity. I think it says they plan to, but don't really know.

Anyone know?

Big snow fall in the spring...? Those usually happen in big winters as i remember and this hasn't been a big winter being 65% of normal on precip....Since january our forecasters have been sprayng about the next storm being a big one...The word draught is a more accurate description as the days get longer and the temps climb higher...
