The reporter in that last video sounds like a beta version of a speaking robot.

Yeah, mcreel, the beta robot narration sounds a bit xtranormal.

The video was incredible. The profile shot of the wave looks sinister.

I think there was some controversy about the technology Garret McNamera was using to catch waves. There is a guy here in Santa Cruz named Sean Dollar who I happened to run into a couple of times. I'm not the one to say, but I'd call them both watermen. Stoked that they get to do something they love, and represent surf culture.

Not to be sentimental, but the song reminds me of going to Leucadia, seeing clips of a bootleg copy of Big Wednesday. Being small and having had a short attention span, years until I sat through it entirely.

Finally, my dad tried to get me to start skating natural stance. I think he eventually gave up and said, "That's o.k. you can surf Pipeline some day." Ha!!! I'll never get there, but it is fund to watch. Moreover, I thought it would be cool if someone donated their first Master's purse to something like the Boys and Girls Club of North Shore, or maybe West Side. More better, tithe 10% prize money? If you really make it, reverse tithe? Some people keep buying up land. Hawaii people, some need to eat... I never really dig the poi myself.

Biotch, that was a human narrating that? BwaHaHaHaHa!
I also hope the Billabong folks have a better vid to watch cause that one
was a real POS! But it was definitely GNARLY! Only a Brit plumber would
do that. Is he related to Don Whillans?

Lots of giant waves this past season, and lots of controversy to go along with them.

Last year it was about mushy vs hollow(less about sponsor or principles IMO).
This year it's about completing the ride.

Laird ruffled some feathers with his comments about Maya's skills but his assertion that you should actually MAKE the wave to claim the ride deserves merit.

This years XXL contender didn't make the wave either. (Props regardless!)
Wipeout of the year maybe, and there's a category in the contest for that too.

Here's a pretty f*#king heavy one

Yeah.... does it count if you fall off?? Maybe "biggest wave ever attempted?" Survival is the most important thing here, plus the balls to try it! Respect!!
