I would like to see some more Gunks videos. So, I will (and maybe some other people can add to a prize as well to make it more interesting?) make an moneyless bet of a pound of salt to the climbing comunity, that my team (at least a party of two people) can climb Yellow Wall in the fastest time.

Rules of the game:

1a. No soloing allowed.

1b. No climbing without adequate protection according to stipulations made by gear manufactures. In other words safety first and no circus stunts. If you are going to run it out your top piece must be rated for the total kinetic weight.

1c. No hanging on gear or tension. You climb the rock, not a rope etc. No using fixed gear, except for the now existing bolts and pins. If you use fixed gear an average time mark for placing gear must be subtracted gauged from posted videos of this climb.

2a. The climb must be videoed by your party and the time posted separately. Note however, the video does not have to be from the time you are posting, but only to serve as an example of the style you are working with. In fact you can post the video after your time mark wins the competition, but you need to post the video to actually win.

2b. If you are going to post the video after your time wins, your video time mark must match your previously stated winning time mark or better.

3. Climbers to take responsibly for their own safety, injuries, and deaths, and remember that climbing is a good way to kill or injure yourself, and you agree that anyone posting here is not responsible for writing any of this in any way shape or form before you climb. Legally consider these are all troll posts, made up, nor real, a work of fiction, there is no such climbing competition at all and we are actually talking about monopoly money! In other words, climb at your own risk.

4. 10% of the prize, to be awarded to second place team for each fall you take from this date March 6th 2013 onward. No falling allowed on the climbing competition if you want to claim 100% of the salt. Pretend you have no rope, climb in that style.

5. Anyone can add to the prize, including myself, but you cannot subtract. Posters who will submit for the prize must give a verifiable real name.

6. Prize to be awarded in full at the end of 2013 and at the time after 5 parties have posted their times and real verifiable names.

7. The Property Owners have a right to nullify the Competition at any time for any reason, at which time this entire thread could be deleted.

May the best party win! Good luck!

Post links to your videos and the times below.

Note that this post may be altered at any time to make it more clear, and some of the rules may change slightly to make it more interesting. Any contradictions or litigation will be resolved by the competitive members themselves or by drawing straws.

If there is any money involved the winnings must be sumited to the Mohonk Preserve.

Rule 3 ???.......
Have you notified the Preserve of your intent to have this competition on their property?
The only way to make your posting clear would be to erase it.

Gill's blog on rope climbing tells of a Donald Perry who was a phenomenal rope climber shortly after the war.

Donald, is that you?

The number of rules and regulations makes this seem like a sh#t show.

Very un-Vulgarian.

It should be "Who can make it up Yellow Wall, soloing with a beer in their dominant hand?"

Just watch the posted video soon to follow where we keep our money all through 2013. I probably should make it more, just so you guys can stop posting and start climbing.

"Have you notified the Preserve of your intent to have this competition on their property?"

No, it's kind of like a bet, and not the kind of thing that people can attend.

I'm guessing on Donini's knee injury:

Right knee with a foot stuck in the mummy roof.

Are you talking about a team of 2 free climbing the route?
Or somebody speed-jumaring a fixed line that touches the route? Or is that "soloing"?

1b. No climbing without adequate protection according to all stipulations made by gear manufactures.

Since the gear manufacturers make no such stipulations, this is very vague.

I had a great time climbing much of this route some years back, but the upper part had a detached flake that looked like I'd need to pull on, so we didn't complete the route.

it was bad enough when donald infected gunks.com...now that he's here i feel sad to think that casual viewers might actually think morons like him represent climbing in the gunks. chipping and donald perry. what a great image.

the only bright side is that such an image might actually thin out the crowds...

Pffft... now that Don has laid down the gauntlet with this Yellow Wall comp, crowds will only get bigger, particularly when the NBC Sports chopper is hovering nearby.

Maybe he can get the Gunks closed to climbing like the Watchung cliffs (NJ) got closed because of a single a-hole who had too much time on his hands and wanted to 'officially' get climbing sanctioned as a legitimate activity at the place. Cops used to just look the other way. After this fiasco, cops started writing citations with sizable fines for the first offense. Now that act really thinned the crowds.

It seems you have a problem with the 1st post I made in this thread. OK, what's the problem?

The problem has already been stated. Your starting an unsanctioned climbing comp on preserve land. I wonder what Hank would think of it? Maybe I will send him a link so we can get his perspective.

I think you are allowing your imagination to run wild.

I did not “just crawl out from under a rock” with this idea. This is not something I just invented. There has been competition going on in the Gunks for years. This is not about anything different than has already been going on, I don’t feel the need to inform the Preserve because nothing new is happening and nothing new is going to happen and I am not suggesting anything new should happen.

I am going to climb Yellow Wall and record the time and make a little movie of it. So what!

Is it because money is involved? OK, I will eliminate that and make it moneyless bet, unless it is going to go the the Preserve, OK. I am having a hard time understanding your complaints and trying to oblige. You and your friends sound like a bunch of old ladies who sit home all day and do nothing but complain, you guys need to get out more.

What you should do is thank me for encouraging safe climbing practices, because that is all this post really boils down to.

You're delusional.

How exactly are you promoting safe climbing? Telling people that you'll pay them money to get on an R rated gunks route? I fail to see any logic here.

Since your around though maybe you could clear up a rumor that I've been hearing. Was it you who went to solo Erect Direction and had a meltdown?

Yep that was me. However the only thing that was melting was the chalk in the cracks, as I discovered after I got around the corner and the water started dripping on my head. I would call it a moment of clarity rather than a mental melt down. I was forced to think about eternity. That was back in July 1979.

I had to be rescued in that open book up there. After this I was convinced that I needed to confine myself to my room until I unraveled the meaning of life. On the climb I realized that I needed to figure this out before I did anything else. Two months later at 10:00 AM Tuesday morning on September 4th 1979 I came out with the conclusion that the most important thing in the world is Love, and therefore logically God should be Love and that in order for this to make sense Love must be God.

Rather than reinvent a religion, I supposed that the Christian religion should be the closest thing to answer this question. So I realized that this fundamental idea espoused there in must be considered correct.

Here is an example of what I am referring to in the Bible:

1 John 4: “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 13Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. 14And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.”

That definition works for me.
