I made these back around 1987. I can't remember the inspiration exactly but I know it came from the wind-surfing I did. The spreader bar in the chest-harnesses in wind-surfing world worked so well I adapted it to leg loops for climbing. It keeps the legs from pulling together in a Pee Wee Herman sense. The internal bar itself is 7075-T6 - stiff enough but it still flexes. Anyone seen anything like these?

For long climbs I've always like the separate leg loop swami combos too - sure makes it easier to crap and piss.

I had a couple of the old Forrest harnesses--liked them
a lot, never did any kind of re-engineering like you did though.

I don't know Dan... a thin strip of metal near my Jonny? Sounds like the potential for castration is high.

Can't say I ever fell with it. Anyway, it works pretty well. It's more of a big wall thing. It actually gives the nuts more breathing space and keeping the legs more naturally spread out, and there's hardly any way the metal can be a threat - any more than all the other metal hanging around is. I know yer pulling my leg! Combined with wider loops it would be the full meal deal. Once you try a spreader bar you realize how much your legs get squeezed together without it.
