After being sucked down the vortex of another off topic thread I think it's time to take the Donini Vow
By the way, i never said that i was quitting ST but i have made a personal vow to never post on anything but a climbing thread. Okay, i am hoplessly Old School.
Obviously there are exceptions to the rule, Friday night posting while drunk!
I do so vow, anyone else?

Wait, when does the vow start? This isn't a climbing thread, so will I be an instant liar?
Is this a non-climbing thread about only posting on climbing threads?
The penrose stairs of threads! Penrose thread!

Vows traditionally originate somewhere in the first act of opera. Supertopera, not so much.--Donini

A Donini vow could be great, but beware the business vow introduced by Tom Peters in his vov-vov book. Corporate religion next door...

I have little doubt at all that donini can do the NIAD.
But like Strother Martin says, what we have here is failure to communicate.
The D is supposed to stand for "day" not "diaper".
Besides, don't they discourage people from hammering pins into it?
(trivia quiz; what was the Dennis Hopper line in Cool Hand Luke?)

Once again Donini proves his superiority to us mere mortals. I can't go there but understand his desire.

Yooo....my first name is not Grover. I'm not suggesting posting only on climbing threads is some higher value, I just think that it's the best thing for me with the goals that i have in mind and the ease with which, to my consternation, i can be sucked into the morass of politics and religion.
Have fun whatever you do.....posting on a friday night while drunk has a high entertainment quotient for many!

Weird. I don't recall ever seeing Rolf post to a non-climbing thread before. Just don't make it a habit.

This is the Donini vow that impresses me the most. I'll be 60 in a couple a years and though I've never been in the same league as Donini, I'll try to keep hammering too.
As i aproach my 70th birthday, the sands running ever faster thru the hourglass, i have decided to dedicate this year to some climbing goals.

I'm in, even if people don't "take the vow" I think we should try and make a point of bumping climbing content to the front page so this actually looks like a climbing forum. Thats why we're here right?

I am going to settle for a realistic goal.
The Cow in a day.
If it's mostly buried under rockfall, so much the better.
Just gotta go look for it and hope it's not totally buried.

I get what you are saying and I've had my own Donini-esque vow for about a month now:
But first, as a preface, I and others have observed that the kookiness of ST (always an element of that, that's why I'm here!) seems to get ramped up in the winter when folks don't seem to get out as much. Being laid up with an injury for extended periods seems to increase the factor as well. Come spring and the increased photon exposure and fresh air seem to put a damper on the negative.
I can get sucked into these threads as much as anyone. And you don't need to post to be overly engaged, just reading can have the same adverse affects. :-)
So, I have chosen to take a "working" vacation from the Taco Stand until the Spring. I've scaled back. I don't check the forum list for new topics much and tend to know which ones are safe to open if I do: primarily climbing related, of course, but there are some great picture, poetry, and other threads out there. It's not the content so much for me as the quality of the content and the intentions of the posters.
If I do post, I follow general guidelines that apply all the time on any public forum (or even e-mail) that have long served me well: Be positive and ask if you are contributing something that adds to the discussion and/or provides support for another human being (or animal, maybe even a plant or rock!). Good-hearted humor (especially with respect to oneself) is always a good thing too.
In the meantime, I've got plenty of other things around here that need my attention!
Cheers!
Eric
P.S. If you haven't seen it yet, check out Ghost's http://www.supertopo.com/tr/Climbers-save-their-country-Yes-this-is-damn-on-topic/t11830n.html. Required reading and a little bit of something for everyone. Great storytelling about the beautiful people of the north.

I noticed the nearly full moon while driving to my friend's home in SLC last night.
Are there more loonies on ST when the moon is full, or are we always posting?
It was a foggy drive home to Choss Creek today.
oh yeah!
I'm not a Christian or a Conservative, so I don't do vows.
I do like avoiding politard threads, (when possible) and climbing with Donini.
