I appreciate what you have done for those of us who come to SuperTopo as a climbing site. I also appreciate your taking action as many of us have wanted to, but chose to ignore rather than get involved. It takes courage to be willing to involve yourself. Thank you.

Thanks are probably in order for Ihateplastic as well. Without his repeatedly posting underage shots (or photos of girls who appeared underage) that thread would probably still be kicking. It was a self-nuke type of thing, and really f*#king creepy.

Thank you t*r. Love you, because you're you. You've never kowtowed to convention, even when the painfully conventional (^^^ you know who you are), challenge you to tow their line.

Don't ever change t*r!

Ditto.

And thank you for sparking the debate on getting these forums cleaned up. It's a long overdue discussion.

I hope t*r will be let back into the fray soon. It would be a BIG shame for the Supertopo community to know a woman was silenced over this.

A valid point, Cosmic.

I have come to enjoy the site and its personalities. Indeed, as a result of contact with climbers and the climbing culture here, I've started to try some gym and artificial wall climbing, and I like the idea of doing some bouldering once the grad school/work combo eases up some. It's not something I would have even considered before encountering this place not too long ago.

As for the ponies, you may also notice that they stay within the threads that are already train wrecks.

There are certain kinds of ugliness I can't abide, though. Posting naked pictures of underage girls is one of them. It is sexual exploitation of a child, and there's simply no defending that.

hey there say, all....

not exactly sure what has been happening, but i have seen quite a few new odd titles, so i knew something was up...

just with dial up, i am not as able as i used to be, to see all the threads, so pick a few and get off before my body aches, fighting with all this typeing and waiting for loading-pics, etc...

seems dial up worked better, years back, :(

well, i like what i just saw here from mighthiker...
it helps me get an idea, as to all the thread titles, here too:

I'm glad that t*r spoke out, even if a bit intemperately. CMac surely has his own standards, but the thread and many posts to it simply didn't belong here. I only regret that it was allowed to go as long as it did, which perhaps just proves that Chris has a real life.

For those of you (middle aged males) squawking about censorship, 'art' and such, ask yourself whether you'd be comfortable seeing similar photos of women in your family, or female friends, posted here.

Isn't the forum meant to be inclusive of all climbers?

Hopefully t*r can be restored soon. She may not have climbed El Cap solo, with a blindfold on, during an icestorm, but she does contribute

i am sure now, too, after seeing the main thread that men-folks gravitate too, GONE , that a major cross-discussion has taken place between threads over THAT thread... :O

imagining all the opinions and all the types of folks here... i can at least add this:

it is nice to know that the place here, versitile as it is, can feel
clean and fresh as to sharing thoughts and feelings as to what we'd do at a campfire, and NOT:
just sharing pictures of well, things that are
to be more 'private' out of respect to others...
(though it is understandable why you men-folks enjoy that)

but:
many times, those pictures that men-folks post, seems to go overboard into
'flaunting' the power to do so.... it turns out wrong...

however, avoiding this, and instead keeping open fresh avenues of talking, sharing, etc, we can learn more about each other and not learn about 'those private type' pictures and things, that are best kept for one's 'personal time in their home'...

i enjoy learning other aspects of you all climbers...
you all have so VERY MUCH!!else to offer, as to experience and as to other thoughts, and life-issues, and things that you have been through, and CONQUERED! you are a vast resevoir of HELP to us all--please, please, STILL BE THIS, and you will grow, even more, as to quality :) ... (JUST added a slight edit here, as i posted so fast)

so:
i reckon that whatever happened here with t*r will be good to help us all
share on so many more levels...

(i know you guys will still find time for your 'private pictures' at home, so let's hear some more new stuff from you all, that can make good helps and encourage others, no matter what kind of CLIMB in life, or, climb at the crags, etc ...

we are worth MORE as friends, as we all learn more, in other ways)...

LAST NOTE:

say, there was some very uh, odd adds showing up around the supertopo, and i kind of wonder if it was connected to some of the threas? i'd never seen those show up here before and they seemed not to be good climbing ads, :O

not sure what thread i hit, but it had some on the side banner, think it was???

well, folks, carry on... onward and upward, you guys have so much more to offer... sure hope this all works out for good..

not sure what t*r actually did, but i sure hope you all can see her as
part of this quilt... we really DO need each other...
god bless...

edit:
ooops, if she 'over did it' in some way, please forgive--i've been reading the 'blown up thread stuff' now... thought the 'nuke' was just deleting stuff...

hope this gets resolved, and settled down, soon, for the best of all,
as well...

Very torn here. I enjoy T*R a great deal and want her back.
I also think the Boobs thread started out in a reasonably sophomoric way, grew creepy and lost its initial purpose of diversion from horrible events and long cold winter days.
But I'm concerned about the cluster bombing of the thread. It falls into that "does the end justify the means?"debate. Does that now set the standard for how to get rid of an "Off topic" thread one doesn't like or agree with? For many the behavior seemed shrill, strident and bullish. None of us have been immune from acting that way at some point or events in our life. Others have felt the conduct was courageous and T*R is now the standard bearer of how to make your voice heard.
So I just don't know...was it courageous behavior or was it "I'll show you". (Just a rhetorical question, no need to respond)

This important point seems to be lost in all the adoration of the little darling...

As Susan says above, the thread grew creepy. The photos of very young appearing girls was inappropriate no matter what their actual ages were. Alhough some can argue with merit that the entire thread was creepy and inappropraite, the images portraying children rather than adults is what ultimately killed an otherwise silly thread.

My $0.02.
