This sinus infection resulted in my first experience with a neti pot... comparable to the first time I had sex... warm, wet, and quick discharge of strange salty fluids. I'm in love again!

Neti is very good for you. Use pure water and fine non-iodized salt.

Pure as in distilled or boiled. You definitely don't want to get the amoeba
that travels up the nerves in the nose to the brain and causes fatal meningitis.
There have been several cases of that the past year although they were from warmer climates.

I would put this topic in the same category as Nature's coffee enemas.
Which begs the question as to why folks that aspire to a more holistic lifestyle seem so hell bent on sticking foreign substances up their orifices?
Am I missing some key point in these endeavors?
Edit: "Hey Lynnie - Charming Dawn and I say HI dudette!"

You are missing the large masses of goo that ooze out of your sinuses... followed by a night of clear breathing.
After a night on the garage wall the snot went from clear/yellow to black... dusty out there. I wish I had one when I lived in SLC.
Hi lynnie

That comes after the Neti Pot... not nearly as effective. It sounds to me like you are afraid of filling your your orifices with warm fluids. Its okay, you can spit.
E.coli is way more common, and I still eat spinach cuz I'm bold like that!

Sinus infection city, bro.
Saline solution is cleansing. Through the process of osmosis, germs and garbage are drawn out from the delicate nasal tissues. This is the same reason your dentist wants you to rinse your gums with saline.
Nasal passages are more delicate than gums though, so only fine quality pure salt in the correct amount in pure water should be used. It is also important that your mixing vessel and the pot itself are kept clean and are entirely free of soap residue or any other foreign substance.
I've had some gnarly sinus problems over the years going back to when I frostbit the nasal passages while ski touring in extreme cold along the North Dakota/Canada border as a stupid kid. Several times in my 20's and 30's I had to go to the hospital to get the sinuses drained. You don't want to know what came out. In my 40's I started doing Neti (actually a Yoga practice) and I have not had a problem since. It's a daily routine for me.

National Jewish in Denver, the number one respiratory hospital in America, pushes a little more sophisiticated version of the neti pot along with a chemically balanced (ph that is) commercially available solution as the first line of defense against allergies, sinus problems, vocal cord problems and bronchitis. That's where I came across it and it has worked wonders for mold induced allergies here in Okinawa.
