Posted for my friend who is Mexican "On the inside, where it counts."
Jenni Rivera, along with crew and her handlers just died in a plane crash in Northern Mexico.
California girl, Mexican heritage, made it HUGE in Grupero, rare for a lady.
She was a great cultural ambassador between our countries. Anybody who thinks we can ever separate ourselves from Mexico is living in an alternate reality.
I really never heard of her before now (well, the headlines the other day on BBC and CNN), but it appears that she was an immense talent.
And yes Canada and Mexico will always be intertwined with the US. I just wish those damn drug cartels would go away. Mexico and its people are lovely. In 1985, along with Rob Grandfield and others, we climbed the three volcanoes (actually I did a solo on Ixta, not that difficult, a slog, the others were too tired from doing Popo), and we were treated very well by the Mexican climbers (but there was that one incident in Pueblo with the police).
