"Climbing" - it's the name for a complex series of activities, symptoms of a disease of unknown etiology. The only other treatments for this disease currently known are heroin, lobotomy, and death. Having children moderates the symptoms in some cases. There is no effective vaccine.

I'm giving up climbing.
And starting extreme hiking.

Anyone got a vaccine for that?

Really?

Every Year?

I won't argue.

How time flies!

It is always fun reading about all those who have their valid (to them) reasons to participate in the next flu pandemic.

Since this is a new thread:

May I add??

The ST slogan??

I am reminded of the folks who arrived in Kathmandu over the years and pronounced boiled water and gamma globulin shots as bourgois paranoia. Like clockwork, they would be glowing orange and puking their guts out 6 weeks later. Some of them even managed to pick up typhoid and hep at the same time. Those were the folks whose livers couldn't tolerate even one beer again for the rest of their lives. It was enough to inspire me to keep up with all my shots.

I got mine. . .along with a DPT shot (whooping cough is rampant this year),
and cuz I'm old, a shingles vaccination.

Talk about a pincushion.

On average, about 24,000 Americans die each flu season

just like, when you see the repetitive information about advanced directives, so that you are taken care of with dignity......

then you have a parent or loved one go through torture at the end of their lives, because it wasn't done.

All preventable, all preventable.

Just because we don't get the flu, doesn't mean that we enjoy watching other get inflicted.

Elderly folks, children, and the immunosuppresed should strongly consider getting yearly flu vaccines. Healthy robust supertopo types may be able to avoid getting sick by maintaining their healthy lifestyles and frequently washing their hands.

There is never anything that is 100% "cut and dry" in the world of medicine/health care. Where there is no hard reliable evidence, we rely on the testimony of experts. But we must remember that this "testimony of experts" is categorized, in logic, as an "argument from authority", which forces upon us the possibility that the testimony of any expert may be based on an erroneous belief to begin with (or worse).

I don't get vaccines myself. And haven't for years. I'm a chiropractor so I am able to make an educated decision. I wouldn't call myself a "tin foil hat wearer" just because I choose not to get vaccinated. I consider it a well thought out and educated decision. I barely ever talk about this subject with patients, but when I do, I give them the advice I stated above. I don't think any highly polarized or dogmatic view on this subject can be correct. Aristotle always found the truth to be somewhere in the middle of the two extremes.
