Austin Post, author of the book Glacier Ice, died yesterday morning. He'd been in declining health for some time.
His book inspired many, many people: great new climbing lines; superb documentation of western glaciers; encouraged some people to become glaciologists; and inspired many photographers, such as John Scurlock and Steph Abegg. It's the end of an era.

Sad news, but what a rich life. His images of the Sierra lauched thousands of adventures, I'm sure.

Tricouni Press will be doing a book on western glaciers, written by John Clague and Brian Menounos. It won't be a repeat of Austin Post but his influence will show, and we'll probably use a few of his photos (and some from John Scurlock). Projected publication date is 2014.
