Hey guys and gals -
I ran into a guy who said he did what he called "The Triple Crown." Apparently, that's doing Tenaiya, Cathedral and Mathis (sp?) all in one day. From the way he described it, it was taxing, and a hell of a mental trophy, but doable.

Does anyone have any beta?
I was thinking of trying it free solo and wondered about logistics: which order to do it in, which trails to take in between, etc.
(Obviously there's some snow-melting that needs to occur, first - and some getting into a bit better shape, too!)
I've some experience in doing similar endurance projects and just wondered how this one is, that's all.
Thanks in advance,
-Aaron

I think this triple crown is done by someone nearly every summer day in tooo--uh--looom.

Go Tenaya to Mathes then Cathedral and try not to get struck by lightning.

Ive never done it.

it's easy if you are solo, maybe harder if you shoot right up to the meadows from sea level and do it. parts of MC are the climbing crux, maybe the same difficulty as soling south crack but w/ more exposure. the TP approach is probably less work than hiking the trail to MC. you can also tag two little features as you go between them (tresseter peak and the the columbia finger, i think). it's just a day hike if you're fit. peter croft used to run up and do MC and be back to the grill for an early day of guiding.

edit-
btw- just look at a topo of the area

definitely doable.

A partner and I almost did it last summer. We bailed on cathedral, because we were tired of the swarm of mosquitoes, and wanted to get to the Lee Vining Mobil for dinner before they closed. But we definitely had time to tick cathedral as well.

We left our car at the cathedral trailhead, and caught the first shuttle to tenaya lake. We soloed tenaya peak, very easy, and I'm no hardman. One 5.5 move on it? straight shot cross country to matthes, which we simuled. Maybe 6 5.7 moves on that thing?

I live in Sacramento (sea level) but we spent the night outside the tuolumne entrance which I think helped acclimate. There is more info on this linkup in the Matthes Crest route beta section.

Have fun!

I got one for you.

Lyell/McClure/Amelia Earhart, in a day from T Mead trailhead.

I did it in a time of proto-dawn to not really that long after dark. Should have set my watch?

Easier technical rock than matthes etal, but sporty snow and a lot of miles.

next you'll be telling us to seek out wide cracks!

how about this-
up north peak, up north ridge of conness, down the trail, up the west ridge, down the east ridge, beers in the meadow at sunset. can't tell you how it goes (yet) cause rain keeps thwarting my big plans...

The Yosemite Valley Triple Crown is

Driving the Valley loop backwards (at night, no lights).

The Mirror Lake Loop (at night, no lights).

The Bike path from the annex housing at the lodge (now gone) across the swinging Bridge to sentinel picnic area (what the hell, at night, no lights).

The third leg requires an '80's vintage Honda Civic or narrower (barely cleared the rails).

A Mini Cooper might do the job.

Not that I would know anything about this. Just sh#t talkin'™

(Whats the statute of limitations on Federal land?)

The 1st leg of the Valley Crown is regularly ticked in daylight by Japanese tourists in rental cars.

A mellow Whatever Crown goes up to Unicorn and then across the ridge toward Echos. There's some bump along the way.

Lyell (hmm, via East Arete?) to MacClure ("I'm Mount MacClure, you may remember me from such showstoppers as Jaybro's Triple Crown...) to Earnhart (whatever that is.) Wow.

Been in my black book for a while: HD via Snake Dike to Starr King to Clark and back to the pizza deck. Yipe!

Another one, eastern sierra and Only a dble crown, and nontechnical, to boot;

-Is the Cirque peak/Mt Langley from horseshoe meadows loop. About 26 miles and tops out on the farthest south 14er. A fun day. I did it in under 6 hours and list it with my marathons.
