I get on a rock and everything else doesn't matter. It' all about moving up, enjoying being outside, etc.

Remember life is too short, live it fully.

Climbing shouldn't be about anything else. Seriously people should leave that other stuff behind and enjoy breathing, being, existence. In fact everyone should leave anything and everything that is associated with conflict behind. Like I said, life is way too short. There should be some places, some actions that are sacred. I consider climbing one of them.

It feels soooo good. How is it compared to drugs, alcohol, sex? It is just another addition. Escape from the real life.

There was a time when I worked hard and spent most of my spare time and money climbing, but I haven't just lived the good life as a dirt-bag climber without a job or other responsibilities. Many of my good friends have had varying periods of their life devoted to climbing but I have always been just a weekend warrior. Maybe someday but I kinda doubt it. That does not mean that I think it isn't a glorious ideal. More power to those that can.

Succinctly and well put. You once again have a way with words.

There are many, many paths in this world and they often lead to the same fascinating place. In this case one word for it is presence. Or flow-state, being in the moment, meditation, etc.

And you touch on another favorite topic: Simplicity. One of the all-time most influential slackers ever, Thoreau, had some things to say about that.

Thanks for an nice bedtime thought!

Eric

P.S. Some bad riddles:

1. Why did Emerson feel sick? He felt like he was going to Thoreau up.

2. Why did Thoreau feel claustropobic? He was feeling Walden.

Nyuck, nyuck, nyuck!

Edit: Second the vertical yoga!

There is nothing else for me! It is the only life I want!

I think you know you are a climber when you feel sorry for billionaires and movie star types because they never get to climb...yuck...

And you know that if you won a billion dollars your life wouldn't really change - well except for having Alex Honnald as my personal 7 figure a year belay slave!
And having million dollar sushi parties every month with Nature dressed in a diamond encrusted sushi robe!
And I woulld pay off a few friends child support so they could climb with me everyday!

Ok - it would change - but it would be all climbing!

The greatest feeling is the world is to end the day tired, thirsty, with hands roughened by the rock and chalk dust in your nose.

'Tis the feeling of adventure and excitement and life.
