Was at Horse Flats two days ago and was looking longingly over at Pacifico telling my young son of incredible feats of strength that his old dad use to perform over there. I know the road has been closed due to the Station Fire but I am reading some conflicting things on line as to it's true status, one post dated late 2011 says the road was open. Any first hand knowledge? Next time I head up to Horse Flats I'll cruise down the road and check it out for myself.

Thanks

A week or so ago I was taking the shortcut back from Lancaster and the gate was open at the highway at least.

Just call the Forest Circus and ask.

The Gate at the Highway is usually open due to ranger quarters nearby. Mt Pacifico rd gate is out of view from the highway.

I called a few weeks ago and was told the road to Pacifico from Mill Creek Summit wouldn't be open until Spring '13 due to Station fire.

Pacifico is 2.5 miles up the dirt road from Mill Creek if I remember correctly.

You can take the Horse Flats/Santa Clara Divide to Mt Pacifico road in but, you'll be at the mercy of any ranger you come across.

Normal Pacifico access from Mill Creek is March/November.

I tried to check it out about a month ago. We went to camp at buckhorn but it was packed so we drove to alder saddle (Where the gate is to pacifico from horse flats). We camped there and in the morning I went to check the gate to see if it was locked, but it was just shut, so we pushed it open and tried to drive up, but only got about 1/4 mile up. The road has so many rocks on it, we moved some of the bigger ones out of the way but itd be too much work to get up there in a car.

was there about a month ago--pacifico closed, the road down to little rock closed, sulfur springs campground closed, but i guess it has been for awhile.

but the forest service is doing a great job of handing out adventure pass tickets! they're all over it!

The Forest Service website is now saying the road to Pacifico is OPEN. I'll have to head up next week and check it out.

It is an easy enough mtn bike ride from the parking just past Horse Flats. A little harder starting at Mill Station. I have done both a few times (I am not in great shape either). All you need if a handful of quick draws and a rope. There are many bolted sport routes up there. I have no idea who put in all the bolts. None were there the few times I drove up in the '90's.

It's been a long, long time a ago since I've been to Pacifico.....the forest has burned up, the rock is still there and my friends I shared those days with are long gone.

Forest service budget being what it is

Yeah, funny how they can come up with 14 million samolians to build their
new Taj Mahal headquarters but can't seem to find the money to do what
congress mandated them to do. Yeah, I know, different budgets. Wasn't
that what Faust said, too?
