Thanks this just in.. I started doing this to my cell phone photos because they have green and red bars on the borders.. probably a sensor fault, so I would just desaturate them and use them as black and white images. Then I started playing with layers and erasing to reveal the colours I liked.

Some of that stuff works better than others. Calculus crack image was beautiful. The blue helmet images.

Seems like some real artistic opportunities with the technique!

More please

The Calculus shot is actually taken with my cell phone but both shots of Luke's blue helmet are with my Cannon Rebel XT.

Cool stuff.

Back during my b&w days (80's&90's) i actually bought a box of paint & was going to start hand coloring some of my prints. I think i did one, a lot harder then it looks by hand. With today's technology you could make some very subtle & yet dynamic and lasting impressions. It is still one of those unique aspects of art (art forms) that hasn't been fully explored. It has been utilized in film to some degree/success.

I have been playing with this technique a bit lately. I find that although it can be used in any shot, I like it best when the color object is carefully chosen as a point of focus. I try to make something about the picture jump out at the viewer and let them sort out the rest. I want the viewer to know why I treated the shot that way. I don't want anyone to look at one of my shots and think "nice shot, but why did he choose THAT to be in color?"

Hey Matty! I was hoping you might have something to contribute here. Why did you pull the climbing shot tho? That was pretty sweet. I have noticed that people really like the one color images and was planning to do it on the last image, but didn't really have a solid color to work with.

Thanks for re-inspiring me..
